Not in our culture or system of laws. However, we must respect their way of life, their cultures and beliefs and above all, their legal system.

It may seem crazy top us but it's a country's sovereign right.

I fail to understand why people go to Bali. Or Indonesia. Or anywhere in that region of the world. What could possibly be attractive about going there? You want beaches? Australia has plenty of them. Nightlife? Got that too.

I'd never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER go there willingly. If someone payed me to go there I wouldn't. Especially after the last few things that have happened there (ie: Schapelle Corby, The Bali 9 and this girl now).

So you wont go there because of the sole purpose that they are tough on drug use and trafficing? All those people you have mentioned have been found guilty of drug related crimes. These countries dont tolerate it, get over it. If you dont deal or do drugs then you wont have a problem... you've never been to these countries so therefore you dont have the right to voice your opinion.

having had the Bali experience a few years ago i can honestly say it's not the drug issue that stops me going again. it's the fact that because you're from a western country, you obviously have heaps of money on your person and every effort by the majority of people there will try and liberate it from you.

like most undelevoped countries, the majority of citizens are either thieves or cons. see Australia first and enjoy what we have.

oh nearly forgot about the thead. yeah she's pretty.........................pretty dumb

Pretty much ANY Australian that visits these sorts of countries will be loaded because of the state of their economy. Thats why you stick the more "civilised" areas.

How about Recalcitrant?

We've never really been in the good books with the Indo's since our involvement in the Indonesia/Malyasia conflict in the 60's.... we backed the Malaysians and sent SAS guys on incursions into Indo. We also gave the Malaysians our F-86 Sabres during the period to bolster their air capabilities (we had just bought the Mirage at the time)
So between that background and the muslims extremists running around, I have no desire to visit Indonesia.

The gaol time is a joke, but everyone knows what the consequences are. The girl is stupid!

I've been to Bali and I'd happily go again. Not because I'm a straighty 180, but because i have enough brains to know not to "play up" in a place that has such tough laws on drugs etc.

OT the only thing that bothered me about Bali was being hasseled to buy watches and other cheap rip offs. However, when you did wanna buy something, there was always someone there to sell to you. lol.

Moral to the story is, dont have anything to do with drugs in Bali. If you do, you risk a gaol sentence. Simple as that!

Also, she is damn fine!

that's the word Keating used to describe malaysia's president Mahathir for not attending some conference back in the 90's. once again an Aussie has to back off and appologise to arrogance.

Their whole justice system needs some revision. I know it's illegal, but two pills = 10 odd years? They're government is corrupt and backward enough. Don't they realise bombing public tourist places causes more havoc, death and injury than a few people using recreational drugs? I think I've just answered that myself. Poor girl.

In a country which lightens the sentence of mass murderers in the bali bombing, then wants Shappelle dead for weed (even if she is/isnt guilty)..quite simply suggests their hatred for Australia. I wont be going to a country like that..

The first thing I was told when i got to Bali was if you get pulled over by the cops and they ask for your licence put 20,000 rupiah $A5 with it and then they will leave you alone if you dont then they can and will give you are hard time and hold you up for ages,
Everything in Bali is corrupt.
The only reason to go there for is the resorts, They are really really nice and they are really really cheap.

It cost me $46 a day for 5star luxury and you are waited on hand and foot, the equvalent service here in aus would cost $500+ per day and the balinese people are very nice and can't do enough for you,

Having said all that the hawkers drive you nuts after a few days , the rats along Kuta are bigger than your dog,and I would never go there again.

and the reason for that would be the 3rd generation Asians (that are a throw back to the boat people from Vietnam in the 70's, which we so generously let in to our country) now how soft our court system is.

Its got SFA to do with australia. Their original laws were created to deal with the Heroine/Opium trade through their region, which has been ongoing for years from many Asian countries. You dont hear about the Vietnamese Drug Traffickers getting executed, nor the Chinese or the Malaysians, Cambodians etc etc, but it happens a hell of alot more often then Models from Adelaide, or Hairdressers from QLD.

Sure plenty still gets through, but those are usually "sanctioned" by the local cops/army. Usually meaning the right money has found its way into the right hands. Usually the Army.

And you will note the Australian government has never really put up a real fuss over the issue, as the usual destination for those drugs being trafficked is Australia. It saves the australian cops the hassle of having to try to intercept.

Its brutal, its ineffective(As it just encourages Bribery) and its entrenched legislation, but hardly anti australian.
