When we were at the subie dealers they had a brz and wax beside each other in that limited edition pale blue, brz looked friggn awesome next to the wrx. Just seems so obvious... Pull the motor out of the awd sedan, and drop it into the 2 door coupe. What an absolute cracker of a car that would be then. |

I prefer the (admittedly only slightly) different styling of the GT86 over the BRZ. They're both fun cars though.
But from what I read it was a 10:1 sales ratio between Toyota and Subaru. Maybe the Toyota designers did more of the work, maybe not, but it had nothing to do with marketing.

Lets be honest. We'd all pay extra to not have to say "I drive a Toyota". But 86 does look slightly better than a BRZ and as far as the BRZ goes, it's not really a Subaru if it isn't AWD.

Toyota have a bit of history of outsourcing components in their classic sports cars, from memory the 2000 GT had a lot of Yamaha input (assembly? Certainly the 3M engine and body) and the Sports 800 was a creation of the Kanto Auto works. Also, the Sports 800 featured a boxer engine...

As far as I remember the Toyota came in two varients didn't it? The GT and GTS or something around there? Where the subaru came with one varient? I also remember the top model toyota 86 had more kit than the subaru, interior wise at least.

Really you think so? I prefer the look of the BRZ, and it has a few more options than the Toyota.

a buddy at work was looking at buying a BRZ, but there wasn't any around second hand. I said why not buy a 86 GTS but he said no the BRZ is better that's why its harder to get.
on that theory Subaru might have been counting on stupid people. this coming from a guy who's parents will not let him buy a used car because they cost too much to run but are more than happy for him to spend $43k cash on a new WRX.
