Seems a shame to spend so much money on a model just to kill off in 2 years if they think their only going to sell 1200 or less a month. Business sense says that you would only keep make existing model (FG) all the way through to 2016. |

Well said. Its such a shame. We have world class vehicle and motor engineers and designers and we dont even get the chance to build our own car to give to the world.

Found slide 38 interesting "Sustainability Strategy". Looks like the vehicle goals for 2012 are:
- Full implementation of Known Technology - Auto Stop-Start - Substantial Weight Reduction Seeing as Falcon received most of the near term initiatives (Eco Boost, EPAS, 6 Speed Transmissions), the 2014 update looks like it could have enough in it to match what Holden have done with the VF.

Lots of focus on Hybrids. Wander if any will come our way?
Hybrid Fusion would tackle the Camry.

With the focus on "Global" and the picture of the Sydney Harbour Bridge it could be that something based on Lincoln could be in the pipeline for Ford Australia.

Being regional platforms, Ford has probably done the cost analysis of changing to RHD engineered global products, I'd say those costs are greater than any perceived benefits from changing away from the current local vehicles. It's probably cheaper to take Govt money and keep evolving local designs as opposed to close down and engineer global RHDs.... |

My wife said something interesting the other day. she's not Australian so often has a different take on things. She told me that she doesn't see modern Falcons as Fords or Ford Australia as Ford the company she knows. She also said German Fords and American Fords are not the same company either.. In her eyes and opinion.
I grew up thinking the same, it was obvious to me the Capri escort and cortina had nothing to do with American based cars like the falcon fairlane and mustang. The lines have definitely got more blurred recently which has been great as far as better selection of cars goes. |

Fiesta Focus Fusion (Mondeo) Escape (Kuga) Transit Connect Transit - this year Early next year Edge goes onto S-Max platform Taurus, Explorer are on D3 for now but Taurus will go over to CD4 in 2015, Ford hasn't mentioned Explorer for now, but it too will follow on CD4. F150 and Super Duty are almost like a different company, Those vehicles bring in a huge chunk of profits for Ford NA. |

Isnt Ford ozz turning a profit? Why would they shut the gate on something that is making them money? I know we are only a blip on the globle Ford map, but you dont shut down because its making money. The Head office should be using Ford ozz to help get the place up & running , not shutting it down?
Falcon & Mustang have always been stable mates, head office should use us to their advantage & walk hand in hand with us to grow the brand. Mustang has always been a great seller & a well known name, as with Falcon...

Unless you consider Europe's billion dollar loses and 6000 job loses. Loses can be anything from real financial bleeding to "creative accounting". I don't think FoMoCo Aust is in the same boat.

seeing with Falcon locally are being mirrored in Europe by massive drop in Mondeo/S-max/Galaxy sales. So annoying because antipodean FoA cannot get Foe products for Australia but thankfully Fiesta and Focus are now built on our doorstep. I have a hunch that through Pacific Rim free trade agreements, our next mid sized car could come from somewhere else, thinking North America but praying for Broadmeadows. |

To be frank, I don't care if Falcon/Territory dies so long as we continue to build something, ANYTHING here in Australia. Continuation of manufacturing is far more important than whether or not Falcon lives or dies IMO. |

Broady could be the RHD production hub for the next gen Mustang if it and the Falcon share more than just styling cues. I think local production of the Edge next to a revamped Territory would work too seeing as no other plant in the Asia Pacific region makes it.

Ford Australia will forever pay the price for the Burela era, Focus and its derivatives cancelled (Kuga and locally developed Focus ute), global V6 cancelled which would of opened up Falcon exports, Ecoboost chosen over Falcon diesel (dealers were crying for diesel), the cancelation of BFiii wagon which killed up to 600 Falcon sales a month overnight, killing XR8 and therefore throwing away a halo model for Falcon sedan and ute range (Falcon's image slid further downward and ute sales are now dismal with little high profit performance sales).

falcon wagon wasn't selling at 600 either, xr8 was already stagnant and ford sales trends are the same as every other player in the large segment... so you can take your anti ford drivel and head on over to www.i'maholdenfanboi.com |

maybe that's an answer to the XR8 dilemma, adding a different car to the GS and GT Falcons... Just a thought... |

It would still be a massive rip off at that price. It would be reasonable if everybody was unaware how much they actually cost in the US, but when you consider the Toyota 86 is more expensive than a Mustang GT in the US yet sells for low 30k here going that far over that is just pure profiteering. And i'll bet thats exactly what Ford will do when it goes on sale here.
But then again on the other hand I can't see how Ford could position a Mustang for low 30's, when you consider how much high end Focus's and Mondeo's cost. But it would be an awesome way to generate sales. Hopefully Ford don't get too stupid and price it out of the market so that no one buys them. |
