Pimply cars, or ***** poppers.
Designated by the big P plate on their back windows, and the HKS stickers. In the abscence of the obligitory "P"imple plates, I call them rice. I'm sure the youngens are going to have a field day with this

They're ricers when they're driven by a fool with fart exhaust and that lovely "vttt vttt vttt" sound...come to Glen Waverley. Regular Saturday Night Special.
Otherwise, I reckon some Japanese cars are excellent.

I just call them Jap imports ... cos that's what they are.
KDM originally came from "Japanese Domestic Market" parts (imported to said country from Japan. Some tough cars have come out of the land of the rising sun. And then either modified really well ... or absolutely poorly by individuals. Speedhunters is one of those links needed to be saved as a bookmark. Mad Mike's 26B quad rotor I could add so many more.

What do I call Jap import cars?
...erm..."That thing parked in the driveway beside the G6E"...? It's foolish to ignore a car just because it was made in some other country...there's some interesting stuff you can find out regarding trivia about them as well. For instance, when Toyota wanted to go a whole new direction with the model of Celica I own (Third Generation), they brought in an entire new design team, and made sure that no one on the team was over 25 years old. That's what you call "taking a big chance with one of your flagship models"... Last edited by 2011G6E; 19-02-2012 at 09:17 PM. |

I own multiples... and because they are older vehicles they are JNC - japanese nostalgic cars... mind you when the prince takes a bit to start it gets called allll sorts of names.
There are a gazillion bad ones that are rices, complete with "shopping list" on the front guards, but the same could be said for Fords and Holdens too.....

Mad Mikes RX-7... quad rotor goodness!
The thing with "JDM" is, when used to describe a styling direction, it can be used for any car...even not those from Japan, like VW's BMW's etc. Quite odd... I always laugh at "rice"...a term originally used by harley owners when describing the Japanese bike that just beat them... Then used by American car owners to describe the Japanese cars that just beat them... Then in/around the F&F era, just used to describe imports with tasteless mods... Now used by anyone who has a problem with another cars styling... An XR6 with a Bulge? Oh that's rice...doesn't make any sense in the world

It's something different from the everyday norm i see here. Also like some of the "stanced" old skool Euros as well. As Nikkid mentioned. All of them car enthusiasts ... just like we are. Also shows new styles that filter down in our own car scene in some ways as well.

Jap crap is a common term too for the less than stellar cars. In Fiji last year there were some crackers that had all kinds of stuff on them.

What do I call Japanese Import Cars... of better build quality and performance, that's what I call them.
There are some great Japanese cars out there, that have stood up to the test of time with both styling, handling and performance. There are 20 year old Japanese coupes that would still give today's domestic performance brands are hard time.

depends for me. i personally dont see the big deal with alot of skylines. i like the tail lights but thats it for me. the wrxs that where made in the 90s i like alot. the rx2,rx3 i love. dont like rx7s much they just look wrong but the rx8 is a sweet looking beast. supras i like as well. i dont like the notes of most of the japanese cars from the exhaust. though some do sound pretty sweet!!! most sound like a fart following the car but everyone shuts up when they see how fast most of them are!!!

0-100 in under 6 seconds from a 1990 stock twin turbo 300ZX.
The 300ZX my father owns at the moment will do it under 5 seconds, it has a few mods. Not bad for a 22 year old car with minimal money put into it. Makes my V8 feel like a 10 year olds toy. |

The enemy.
I am in my late twenties and all my younger cousins and their mates all drive and love imports. It's funny because holden and ford kind of have a reputation of being a bit slow to the younger generation. When a few of them have jumped in my falcon for a lift or whatever, and the first thing they ask after I've stamped it is "is it turbo?" to which I reply no it's NA. I enjoy the puzzled look on their faces. |

What do I call them? Whatever the badge states.
They're cars that come from another region just like the German, US, French, etc cars. Like all makes they have good cars and they have bad cars.

I call this my jap weapon (R33 GTR)! because that's exactly what it is - a weapon! 480kw at all four wheels with fully adjustable race suspension (also has the in-cabin controller for the tein coilovers). This beast will go 0-100kmh in 3.1 seconds! Does 220kmh in third gear and gets there quick than a rabbit gets farked! corners as fast as a rabbit corners too.
I also own a XB GT with a 378 stroker and have owned two supercharged XR8's in the recent past - I tell you all now that the jap weapon is certainly no "jap crap" as some people refer to them as. If anyone seriously believes that - come for a ride around wakefield or eastern creek in my jap weapon, you'll be very humble after the experience (or hate jap cars even more lol).

A Falcon is a taxi in Australia... a Merc is a taxi, and my old S15 Silvia would have dusted pretty much anything around the track. A Silvia is a coupe, and not used as a taxi in Japan last time I checked.
