Sorry for any confusion guys, The Question is What's the greatest Australian Muscle Car Ever ?

Just to unpack that a little bit, in my opinion a muscle car must have lots of low, midrange and top end power and torque, a real rip s#it and bust muscle car right across the rev spectrum. (I'm not really asking what's the best on a racetrack but if you feel that's important by all means vote that way).

I threw in the HSV W427 at the last second just for a bit of controversy and fun. I didn't really want to go too far back in history, (acknowledge that some people will think the original GTHO is the correct answer), but if you feel the answer isn't one of the options listed, feel free to have fun outlining your viewpoint

Any 427 owners out there want to come along to one of our track days and get up it? I know there's at least one of them in Tassie.
IMO a huge part of the marketing that went on with this vehicle pushed its collectability and investment potential. Precious metal if you like It is/was grossly overpriced, track focused and was to be "strictly limited" to a production run of only 427 cars, yet sales results showed very limited demand. I'd call that a failure. Put a, (for examle), 500kw KPM tune, brakes and suspension in a GT-P and it'll make the wa#k 427 look even more stupidly over-priced. The fact that the F6 and SC FPV's are so easily and inexpensivly tuned must add to their greatness surely ?

Just stirring up a bit more controversy....

I'd say both. SC V8 v F6 sales for the first 6 months are running at more than 5:1 which is even more dominant than poll results to date, the market place has spoken. GT-P sales up a whopping 470% and running at more than 5:1 v GT-E, interesting.

i cant help but ignore the f6, as its a six and has no heart...for lack of better words. The w427 is overpriced and can be easily eclipsed in the real world by a purchaser of say a GT goin the 500rwkw tune. You cant ignore price when it comes to muscle cars as this is this sole basis on who can purchase to start with. GT335 comfortably the win with overpriced w427 close second. Ya cant forget some of muscle car musts.....power..performance....engine....looks and price.

Off the shelf - the W427 for sure. The GT may have the grunt - but doesn't have the handling to back it up.

In a bang for buck scenario - The GT. Spend some of the extra on getting decent rubber and suspension under it - and spend the rest on a small tune up.

Modern Fords and Holdens are not muscle cars, they are nannied down with electronic crap, sound deadening, give no raw sensation of speed or muscle whatsoever. The W427 is the closest the modern era has got and is by far the best car made in Australia. The new GT might do some acceleration splits that beat it, and if that's your outright measure then okay, but the blown GT is a down to price car running nothing special in the rest of the drivetrain apart from the engine, the W427 is the big picture. It will be the most collectible car ever made in Australia in my opinion.

Ever....how about for now.

Im sure Ford/FPV will not let the falcon die off without a major "fat lady singing" version.

Why they are sitting on things I dont know...they dont have long left to start wowing and impressing people.

Dead heat I reckon, F6 was modern King in my book but the new s/c 5.0L is a return to muscling the competition out of the way kinda car. I am begining to like it as it has so much potential.

Still, leaves the door open for a W427 - like beast which will still be regarded as the only 'true' muscle car comparison of the modern cars. It's a weapon, an over priced, outlandish and really only made for racing...weapon. Sound familiar?

Wonder if you'd say that if you had a 500KW tuned KPM GT-P manual with hot exhaust, lightweight wheels, special suspension and bigger brakes. 840nm of torque too and about $50,000 less expensive to boot.

But that's an aftermarket modified car. We're talking production cars, anyone can get their car modified to do whatever. It costs far more to buy it like that from the factory with full ADR compliance and full factory warranty.

This....

But we're not comparing modded or tuned cars here....or are we??
If you're going to go down that path then any number of BA/F or FG XR6T's that owners have on here will hose both the S/C GT-P and the W427 in a straight line. That's not the point, we should only be talking and comparing like for like...........the one's straight out of the box with no mods.

To some extent fair comment but the fact that KPM sell that 500KW package brand new with a 3 year warranty, makes it a grey area. You could make the argument that KPM's tuning is similar to Walkingshaw's treatment of the W427 which also came brand new with a 3 year warranty for approx $50,000 more.

Nothing gray what so ever, KPM are not a vehicle manufacturer at all, they're nothing like HSV who did the W427, they're just a garage specialising in aftermarket hotting up of cars.... its simply a kit added to a Factory manufactured vehicle.
The "warranty" claim. LOL.. Its just a marketing spiel.

Fairly sure the W427 was a HSV rather then a Walkinshaw, big difference. Can you buy a KPM car new? Ie. can you buy the car as is, as a *new* car and register it as is?

On the rego papers will it say FPV GS or will it say FPV KPM Streetfighter? Fairly sure KPM have already said it wont meet ADR's?

If you register a W427 i'm fairly sure it'll say HSV W427.

I know you like manual gearbox's but you seem to have conviently forgotten to mention the world class ZF gearbox which has been specially strengthened for the new SC and has a new cooler. (You know the same world class gearbox used by Rolls Royce Aston Martin, Jaguar BMW e.t.c.) Nothing special in the drivetrain, pfftt, yeah right

Vehicle Cooling System
* Brand new high efficiency radiator and fan pack assembly
* Twin variable speed fans
* New high efficiency automatic trans oil cooler system

Automatic Transmission
* Upgraded ZF 6HP26 transmission
* New 7 plate clutch pack and 4 planet planetary gearset for improved torque capacity

i voted for the wd40 as well, as much as some woul disagree, imo it is the total package.

price is irrelevant

aftermarket modifiers are irrelevant

i agree with mcnews, this will be one of the most collectable aussie cars in years to come.

Astons are still all 6 speed manual and ZF auto with paddle shifters. No DCT.

BMW have a 7 speed DCT for M cars, but I think all others are 6 speed autos, maybe some of the new 5, 6 or 7 series will be 8 speed ZF?
