Default Motor Vehicle Sales Fall In June

MOTOR VEHICLE SALES FALL IN JUNE

Supply constraints held June motor vehicle sales down to their lowest level in eight years, according to figures released today by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI).

Official VFACTS data reveals that 96,157 new vehicles were sold in June, 11.6 per cent fewer than last year’s all-time record (108,722) for the same month.

“It is clear that sales in the past month were again affected by supply constraints resulting from the Japanese earthquake and tsunami,” FCAI chief executive Andrew McKellar said.

“Manufacturers and distributors affected by the Japanese natural disaster are reporting a reliable return of supply,” he said.

“We would expect the effect to dissipate over coming months.”

Despite the constraints of recent months, 496,236 new vehicles were sold in the first half of the year, providing a fiscal year total of 1,000,642 vehicles – the fourth time the one million vehicle sales barrier has been broken in a financial year.

“Depending on the extent of the rebound in supply, we remain hopeful that total sales of more than a million vehicles are still achievable for the full year in 2011,” he said.

Mr McKellar said the impact of the recent hike in FBT on cars, announced in this year’s Federal Budget, could have a negative effect on recovery.

“Consumer demand has softened and we do have concerns that sales could be hampered as the FBT changes begin to influence demand patterns,” he said.

Locally manufactured sales outperformed the market in general in June, recording 2.2 per cent growth compared with the same period last year.

The increase is attributed to the recent commencement of sales of locally manufactured Holden Cruze.

Holden claimed market leadership for the second month in a row in June with 12,827 deliveries, ahead of Toyota with 12,514 sales and Ford with 9,216.

My understanding is that this is a Ford owned dealership, and if so that is just appalling.

Just a thought Trev. Taking into account that vehicles are made up of hundreds of components from all over the country would you be comfortable buying a new car from Japan now ? Are they being honest with their own people regarding the radioactive fallout from the Fukashima plant ?

Run a gigacounter over your new Toyota from Japan before accepting delivery folks ?

Good month for Ford in the grand scheme of things, ie. without LPi. They said previously that things had picked up a bit.

1847 for Falcon is ok compared to previous months. Hopefully LPi will push this up to 2500 in the future, but probably not July as it won't have much effect till August.

I dunno mate, I was talking it over with my neighbour the other day who was about to order a new Toyota Van for his work wagon...he didn't think it was completly out of the question that there could be some residual radiation, taking into account that parts come from all over Japan and he's now buying a demo one that was built in 2010 before the accident, you can't be too careful, I really not sure they've been 100% honest wioth their own people... better to be safe than sorry Now where did I put my lead lined jacket

These figures are only for the 4x4 ute versions. It's a common thing with reporting these figures - I don't know why anyone would list the 4x4 versions separate from the 4x2.

4x4 and 4x2 are different segments in the VFACTS report, so if you are lazy and do not add two numbers together, they can be incorrectly reported.

It is interesting, even without the new ranger, it has now been Ford's best seller 2 months in a row now... And yet some still want Ford to foucs on Falcon ute over ranger!!

At least there are lots of postive stories around the net about Ford this month.. I think we have hit the bottom & are now on the way up!! Looking forward to future months!!

How things have changed. Only a few yeas ago it was Commodore and Falcon 1 and 2 every month. Now look at the numbers the small cars are pulling.

Still not a bad result for Falcon considering the circumstances lately. I said before the most they can probably look at is 2000-2500 a month as large cars move into a smaller market share. Made almost that without the new dirvetrains and FG2.

I guess that is on here the overwhelming majority of people are car enthusiasts, and look at things like FPV utes as something fun to drive etc. While many, me included, would not buy a Ranger or any vehicle along those line in a pink fit. Although of course, plenty of families and tradies just after amenity over any form of performance or attributes that an enthusiast would covet, will buy them and love them as they roll around corners and plan their overtaking moves 2km in advance :-)

Interesting that VW Golf is at position 4. Cant remember Gold making top 6 before.
Who is buying it? Fleet buyers? Green rating on 1.2 TSI motor?

Surveys rate VW low on reliability so its interesting why it sold so highly.

Anyone got any ideas?

Ford bounces back in June, pulls away from Mazda and Hyundai

http://www.carpoint.com.au/news/2011...-hyundai-25582

Ford has cleared its back-lot of thousands of Falcons, recorded its strongest sales in 12 months and increased its lead over Mazda and Hyundai, both of whom had been challenging the local maker for third place on the sales charts.

Preliminary data for June shows that Ford sold 9200 vehicles last month, up 35 per cent on May and the best monthly result since June 2010 (when Ford sold 10,000 cars).

Going into June, Ford, Mazda and Hyundai had been separated by just 1500 sales year-to-date.

But a strong month for Ford meant that the Blue Oval brand was able to pull away from Mazda and Hyundai – even though both Asian brands posted first-half-year sales records.

Preliminary data shows that Ford now leads Mazda by 1300 sales year-to-date and Hyundai by 2200.

Sales of the new Territory SUV (pictured) were triple the monthly average so far this year and the runout Ranger ute posted an all-time record, according to the car maker.

The $32,990 drive-away deal on the Falcon XR6 ($34,990 plus $2000 cash back) also gave Ford’s big sedan a much needed boost, but Falcon sales were still below 2000 for the month, roughly half that of its main rival, the Holden Commodore.

The president and CEO of Ford Australia, Robert Graziano, told motoring.com.au: “I wish you could drive by the plant because we’ve got to actually go out there and mow that lawn now because there’s no vehicles. She’s empty.”

“[Actually] there are some vehicles against the fence there but they are waiting for a ship to go to New Zealand, so that’s the only reason that they’re there.”

Graziano said the new Territory is now in full production and almost beat the original’s launch month in 2004.

“We had a very good Territory month [but] when you look at Territory we didn’t have a full month of sales. [We] almost beat the launch record for the original Territory. Had we had another ten days I think we would have [beaten the original Territory’s launch month record].”

The overall record for Territory in a given month is 2200 sales but the launch record was 1600 sales set in 2004.

Graziano defended Ford’s seven years of sales decline but would not predict if the car maker would finish 2011 ahead of last year’s tally.

“I think it’s tough to tell because it really depends on the run out and the ramp up of the vehicles,” he said. “It depends on where the industry goes and how strong does the industry stay through the balance of the year, so it really is difficult to forecast.

“If you look at a share perspective year on year through May we were about flat year on year. We’re pretty comfortable with how we’re fairing and so now we’re going to build on that success with Territory and with all the other new products that we’re launching.”

The industry was down by five per cent to May but Ford sales were down by eight per cent for the same period. Holden sales were also down by a similar percentage.

Graziano said the company’s fortunes will improve towards the end of the year as new models are introduced.

“By February of next year we will have changed over 85 per cent of our showroom and I think that’s a pretty powerful message,” he said.

The Ford Focus small car and Ranger ute are due in showrooms in the next few months, but both will initially be restricted by supply because of factory ramp-up and overseas demand.

By the end of the year Ford will also introduce a facelifted Falcon along with a new LPG system.

The four-cylinder Ecoboost Falcon will be introduced early next year.

A lot of Motoring write ups rank them high as a driver’s car.

I gather most car owners of small cars would use flying in between major capital cities instead of driving a large family car which is being replace by Large FWD's for long distance driving. Any Euro car is expensive on repairs so I wonder how some of these Golf’s are going to be kept up with correct servicing schedules.

Looks like Holden have found the perfect counterpart for the Commodore
lord knows how high that figure will go when the hatchback gets here.
There's even talk of a stationwagon version as well...

Why does every month the Holden list still contain Monaro, Viva, Astra, Holden Ute 4x4 and Statesman? Some of those models haven't been sold for ages.

This figure perplexed me somewhat, particularly coupled with the recent news article suggesting Holden 'leaving Australia'...I think someone opened their mouth when they shouldn't have in that article, because coupled with the Commodore figures, if they can't support themselves without funding, there's a problem.

And a further confusion - Jeep...where the hell did that come from?

What is the story with Fiesta?
Supply issues from Thailand.
Seriously 800+ for Fiesta and 1900+ for Mazda 2.
Come on Ford -the fiesta is seriously superior to Mazda 2.
