So you call 000. A moron who has no idea whatsoever gets totally confused that you are not in a brisbane suburb and despite you explaining EXACTLY where you are even giving a GPS lat and lon replies "we can't use that, can to tell me the nearest street corner and whether you are on the north or south side of the river".
You then start from scratch explaining in great detail how to get to your location from the nearest ambo station and they reply "we need the exact address so the system can find the nearest ambulance".

You give up, press the button on your EPIRB, US Coastguard receives the message, passes it on to Canberra who pass it on the the helicopter rescue who fly to your position and then contact the ambulance who while only being 30km away have taken over 3 hours to respond and require someone to go and meet them to guide them in.......

P.S. This is not a made up story, it actually happened on the 16th Jan this year....

P.P.S. The ambos are not the problem, they can only go to where they are told when they are told, it is the almost totally incompetent 000 system....

Well that makes sense mate, Put yourself, your wife and your NEW BABY at risk as well as others on the road. Also you being a bit nervous about it all wouldn't help. :

Ill go one up on that.

I know two people, the first one racked up 47 points in the space of 3 hours in Tweed heads, and the other lost his license within 23 minutes of getting his Red p's

Both should be in the Guinness world records.

I had 2 mates loss their lic in space of 30 min same carpark in same car.
The orig police car that booked first guy had him taken away by another car so 2nd guy jump in drivers seat while the he and another waited to get picked up by the first guys misses. the first police car drove past again and booked 2nd guy cos he was in drivers seat with keys in ingnition. They hadnt even move from the car spot.
Cops Know that they had all been drinking, But left the keys with them, maybe to see if they could get 2 more people for driving drunk. What if those guys decided to drive and had an accident.

I was down at Jindabyne with some mates a few years ago. One is a very big drinker. The police were actually outside the bar offering patrons the use of their breathalyser as they were exiting.

So my mate took it upon himself to 'test' how high it could go. We had stopped drinking about 10 min prior to departure.

He blew just under .2 The whole time, he was able to walk (although obviously very drunk), was able to carry a basic conversation, and he still had the state of mind to know what he was doing, how much he had to drink etc. He certainly didn't 'show' what he was blowing.

I on the other hand blew .03 If I had drunk half of what he had drunk I would have thrown up and been quite ill.. I have a weak gut when it comes to alcohol :

The effects of alcohol on a persons body can vary greatly from person to person.. I learnt this the very hard way while travelling through Russia on the train 3rd class with a $5 bottle of Vodka and a 'lets meet the locals' attitude...

Holly crap batman, 1 bad call out of the 1.8m ambulance dispatches in QLD this financial year, thats it, burn the system.

I would like to know your source of information as the ambulance service can use lat/long, I can bring it up on my system at any time, how do you think they guide the rescue helicopter (it does not follow roads), how do you think we find remote tracks in 4WD ambulances. If you had true knowledge on this subject you would know not to believe everything in the Courier Mail. If it did occur as stated, I would suggest there would be a call taker, dispatcher and coms centre supervisor that are now out of work. I bet the article never gave a direct transcript of the call from the voice tapes.

In the meantime while they are sorting the location a senior clinician is taking the person through the safe delivery of a child.I have said it before and I will say it again, child birth is not life threatening and I could talk someone through it safely, as could any paramedic. Only in rare circumstances are there life threatening complications and any couple that have had correct assessments during the pregnancy will know if these are likely (placenta previa, twins, breech, pre-eclampsia etc), and in remote areas they probably will not be at home.

The chance of dying in a car that is being driven by a stressed out drunk at 170 km/h are much higher than the chances of dying during child birth. Once upon a time people used to have babies at home with no medical help, how did they survive?

Not as life threatening as driving stressed, drunk and at high speed. Thought I had explained that!

You studied medicine where?

I know this is way off topic but I can not support or leave unaddressed such notions of absolute stupidity.

The last line of my post was not directed at you, sorry if it seems it was. The last line was directed at the notion it is acceptable to drive stressed, drunk and at high speed. It was me trying to explain why I am driven to try and stop these crazy notions.

By the way PM sent

there is ZERO excuses to drive drunk, if your wife is in the last months of pregnancy maybe this is a good time to stay sober..... just a thought people

How come a drunk driver who gets pinged gets sent on their way yet a drunk pedestrian gets locked up for being drunk in public?

Funny one that.

Absolutely, outstanding comment.

I would suggest it is an awesome time to develop some responsibility.

couldn’t agree more, but people seem to have this notion that they can just not use their brain and if anything does go wrong, someone else will take the fall... one of the politicians over in NZ had a great idea about paying people not to breed, I think he may have been onto something.

Awesome idea, here is a big plasma tv and the pill/condoms, just don't have kids until you are responsible.

Love it, not an election winner though.
