Where does Lincoln get off dubbing this thing 'EcoBoost' ?
Car makers over there just don't get it.

Don't get what? 'Ecoboost' makes it sound fast and economical, both good points. Its called marketing.

Imagine if ford applied the same to the Barra?

The AWD system maybe derived from a Volvo setup, I'm not too sure about that one though. The rest of the car is Ford running gear however.

As for the ECOBoost branding, I agree it's just a marketing ploy. Ford's main reasoning for that branding is the Duratec V6 is a combination of turbocharging and direct injection (latter the Barra doesn't have) which supposedly gives it normal V6 economy with bigger power levels associated with some V8's.

Anyway back on topic...this car looks pretty nice, and 14 flat is pretty good; its about on par with a BA MK2 XR6T but with all the fruit and a fair bit more weight!

All Wheel Drive has other potential than the 1/4 mile, but its interesting to know nonetheless,

Cheers for posting!

Imagine the same engine in a Mustang. This barge weighs over 400kg more than a Mustang and the 'stang is supposed to be getting this engine. I reckon you'd see high 12's or flat 13's. This engine is pretty impressive, but I still preffer our home grown I6T, especially the 310 version in the F6.

What the heck is a G6E T FTW? Is that a FPV G6E or something. Sounds like it goes well for a 12 sec 1/4 mile.

The car you reference is modified and weighs 3,750 pounds to the MKS weighing 4,400 pounds. That is a 650 pound weight difference.

Modified with a K&N air filter? Like that's going to make much difference alone. As for the weight difference, I didn't think it was that far apart. The G6ET weighs around 1800kg which I thought was close to 4000lb?

FYI

3750 lb = 1701 kg
4400 lb = 1996 kg

Online review I read on the G6ET quoted 1715kg (Tare).

It needs to loose wait, or gain more torque, id rather our G6E Turbo anyday, looks better ( the lincoln is good looking though), is lighter, and most of all alot more powerful!

You must have seen the same page I found.

Ah, I was looking at the 12.2 FG XR6t with the APS Phase III kit in that thread....

....the Phase III system adds a larger air-to-air intercooler to ensure the engine can perform at higher power levels and in the extreme heat conditions that are common place in Australia. Changes to the fuel system, air intake system, wastegate control system and the mapping of the Unichip ECU result in a stunning 390kw vehicle that idles like a stock XR6T yet has the power to deliver high 11 second/low 12 second quarter mile times.

So how did this guy get 12.89 with only a K&N Filter????????

There's some Americanism about the Lincoln (MKS) that may not be known. It is not going to be a high volume car. It is at the top end of the scale in price. It is a niche car. It's something for the very well to do to own, look good in, show off in, and have some acceleration with even though it is a "luxury" car. This is not a typical family car and it is not a sport family car. It is something Americans buy when they've achieved a certain level of success. It's a status symbol.

Also, it won't be modified. Those aren't the kind of people that buy these things. So a direct comparison with the various performance models of the Falcon isn't really apples to apples. The Falcon is a better all 'round performance car than the MKS, I would suspect. But as heavy, American luxo-liners go the MKS is pretty well tops.

Have a look at:
Vehicle specs link
Wheels Magazine road test vs Holden Calais V V8 link

They quote the weight as 1784-1789kg, or 3933-3944lb. The Wheels test has a 13.3sec@108mph 400m run, and 50-75mph in 3.1sec. Note the 1/4 mile time would be recorded via an onboard timing box so there won't be roll-out etc you get at the track, which is normally worth a tenth or two.

The examples of the Phase III kit vs the K&N filter car aren't definitive - I'd expect the 12.89 would be just about the optimum time possible, while the Phase III with 390rwkw is capable of much more & would have extreme traction problems.

The ecoboost engine is still very impressive, and it would have been interesting to see what would have transpired if the 4.0 inline had not received a stay of execution - mind you we may well still get the V6 a few years later!
