Buying an XR4

I dont want to start a forum fight here but....

The XR4 would give me the sh!ts as daily driver because its just to slow. I will drive it but it will never be my daily drive. Now if they ever put the XR5 engine in them that will be different.

A car doesn't need to be quick in a straight line to be a good performance car. There's much more to a performance car than straight line numbers (though HSV fans will disagree here). I think the XR4 is reasonably quick, given that it's not turbocharged. If the XR5's engine was in it, it would be crazy! It would actually be a lot quicker than the XR5 then.

Coming from a guy who had a Corolla Sportivo and was impressed with it (about as fast as an XR4, if not a little bit slower)... that 'too slow,' comment is hilarious! :

Though I do agree about it being too slow, which is why I bought a Sport Clio.

Hey the Sportivo was ok I enjoyed while I owned it. There are no regretts there. Sold it for what I paid for it.

Gee wizz I remember being down this path before.

Sometimes being nailed into the seat under acceleration is what its about...

I will have a choice when the XR4 arrives corner fast or go fast... In the XR6 Turbo

For what you payed for it? That's not a bad deal then.

I got a ride in a Celica with the same engine recently. When it hits 6800rpm and gets onto lift, it feels like an absolute rocketship... until you look at the speedo and go... oh.

Hi lift happens at 6000 rpm... Maybe the Celica is geared differently because 2 gear is over 100klm/h in the Sportivo when in lift. 8200rpm in third is enough to loose your license in any state.

Anyway thats all old news... Fords Rock and soon I will own 3.

Hahaha... and the path will continue to go on and on and on............ not everyone will agree with you mowog but I can appreciate what you are saying

I see it arrived ! Well done! Compared to the XR8 also in my driveway - yep the XR4 is slow (and something will always be quicker/shinier/lighter/firmer etc...).... but for what it is, I think it's pretty good (and I keep quote fuel consumption - gets 'em everytime : ), and I'm tipping your kids won't think it too shabby, and I think it's a pretty cool thing to have your dad have one available for you.

Yeh the kids love it. As a parent I like it because it has great safety features and for a small car a good level of performance.
