I have one question

What happened to the VG - VS Series of utes?

It was forgotten between the HQ - VU "storm" transition?

They obviously weren't inspirational cars.

The HQ was the last 'memorable' Holden ute wasn't it? I still see so many of them on the road on the job.

Great ad from Holden! Reminds me of BMW's 3 series ad, but they pushed the creative envelope a little further. The transition from sepia, to black and white, to '70's color' to modern HD was great. The VE ute however has evolved into more of a sports car than anything else.

Clever 'Yes', Inspiring? 'No'. The only thing that would inspire me to have a holden would be a free one! _

The morphing of the cars and scenery reminds me of the Heiniken ad.

First Ford ute (and first ute ever) was in 1934. 15 years before holden. And you forgot the XK, XL and XM utes.

I'm sure what Ford dont realise is that not only is Holden making great ads that generate sales today, they are leaving an impression on the younger generations because there ads are cool. My Kids are now 9 and 5 and I can remember them jumping around singing Thunderstruck, now they are hooked at watching the Holden Transformer's cars. They are asking me can we get a Transformer Holden. The new Ute ad ads to this. These images remain with kids and it wont be long untill we are looking for a first car and they will be buying there own. Ford needs to embrace our heritage, our loyalty, our passon and produce some ads that make the hairs on the back of our necks stand up, not something that's slapped together in 5 minutes to push out some special edition models, ie the terrible ones of a couple of years ago of Lownds, Ambrose and Ingall at Calder I think it was.

I am sure that "kids" get turned on with the kool ads of holden and their catchy tunes and grow up to want a Really kool Holden only to grow up get one and be totally disappointed in the product and go a buy a Ford product which is completley superior in every way shape and form.

I don't know how Ford can top that ad - they might get near to it, but I don't see how they could make an ad BETTER than that. I mean, they even made a car i think looks like s*%t look dead hot. (I reckon the VX is the best looking Holden, so when it morphs into the VE it sorta looks like its going backwards lol)

They can top the ad by showing what features the car has, mot that it morphs and there are bright colors and a way catchy tune, that may be what gets you to buy a car, for me its reliability, tell me about the comfort/creture features tell me how much money i am going to be saving because of the new fuel economy, how good the visibility is, does it come down with gps, how good is the security/anti theft devices, i dont want a morphing car to the sound of THUNDERSTRUCK, that is childish, i want an aussie car i want a FORD...

They did that with the Fairmont Ghia add where they said it was like a european luxury car. Dont think many people here took notice. It seems to sell cars you need flashy colours and great music.

lol? have you seen american ads? its practically like a hollywood car chase, except were not allowed to show "irresponsible" driving on TV out here thanks to all these nannying laws, and dont forget ford NA has LOTS of money to blow on advertising. While over here at discount ford, we basically have a budget of about 25 bucks, assuming ford is generous.

I want to know that i am getting value for my $40,000.00.

You'd think that would work, but it seems the idea is to get the punters into the showroom. So its more brand recognition to make the car an option when they are in the market for a new car.
Holden do a good job to get people in thinking to buy a Holden, then the salesman does the rest.

I gotta say I really do like the Holden Ute Evolution add. I can just imagine if they were Falcon utes.
It's the adds with the cool music & something different that gets peoples attention. One of my favorites of late was the Citroen C4 ice skating add. Music & transforming car. Cool.

A history lesson of Ford inventing the ute. A pick-up is not a ute, utes are car based, pickups are truck-like.

Quote:
The story goes that the wife of a Gippsland farmer wrote to Ford virtually begging somebody to build them a vehicle they could go to church in on Sunday, and cart pigs around in on Monday. Up until then, farmers had been cutting down old sedans, or using any old trucks they could get their hands on to get the farm work done.
Now, either way, the trip to church, when it was dry, was very dusty.
And when it was raining, it was very wet. The job of keeping farmers' wives everywhere happy fell to a 22-year-old guy called Lou Bant. And in 1932, Lou Bant basically was Ford's whole design team. The broad idea was to take a normal car, cut the rear section off, and weld on a new tray to carry the load.

The big problem with that was, as soon as you cut the car in two, you had a major weak spot right in the middle of the chassis. Lou Bant's ingenious solution was to, instead of just cut the car off and throw the back away, he made a whole new rear section, that was integral with the side of the car and the new rear roof section.
That was the secret to the design and it's also what distinguishes Australian utes from American pick-ups.

If you're ever in Geelong, the Ford Discovery Centre has the ute Lou Bant himself restored as a retirement project on display.

The citroen ad was great, for entertainment, loved the music loved the scenery loved the way the "car" moved, but it TOLD me absolutely nothing about the features of the car or what i could expect from spending my money on, in other words its a COMPLETE and utter failure, the amount of money spent on the advertisement does not and cannot register at the till.So like Holdens add, USELESS, failure to meet the criteria...........
