Sad to see mate. Was a nice AU! Glad you're ok though. Any idea on what you'll be replacing it with?

Bad luck mate, not a good feeling I know. But look on the bright side, fresh new car/canvas on the way, or nice new front bar and guards with no stone chips!

You'll prob have to go to an auction and bid against wreckers to get it back, assuming its written off.

Good luck whatever happens

unfortunately a BA :( i know

its in no way a better looking car or better mechanically or to drive but it holds its value better, is cheaper if not the same price

....and getting another au would be a down grade...mine was better than most for sale manual too and we shared the same birth date, well 1 day apart!!!!

this is harder than seeing the old falc damaged...choosing another!!??!!

anyways find out today what happens.....

get a t-series, series 1 and 2 can be found for less then 20k and you'd think they'd hold there value better then a BA

yeah but owning a V8 at my age isnt something i can afford.....i drive my car everywhere..even next door just cause i love being in it, and insurance would be like NO get ****

i even thought about an AUII/III XR6 ute/sedan...theres a few with low kms 40-70k, most local, some manual, most well under budget......but the BA interior appeals more to me..

anyways just got back from aami, rails on drivers side are goneskies, passenger side is kinked and bent outwards...k-frame looks like its had better days

engine seems fine (pulley wise...wont kick over though), radiator is flat as, airbox and everything that side is stuffed.....looks like tickford snorkle survived though HORAY!!

i dont get to keep anything off the car, its all gonna be covered....ill find out tomorrow afternoon or thursday lunchtime...they need quotes from repairers

they have the police report so it shouldnt be much longer now...cant wait

My advice, go buy yourself that XR6 manual ute, you will love it.

Shame to this happen to you, it was a nice car. With that much damage it's going to be a write off. My brother just bent the front of the passenger rail (maybe drivers too?) in his VS and that damage was $6000.

If the engine won't kick over, i might sugest to look at the battery and the fuse box. One of them probably stuffed.

Cheers and hope you stay with the au's

Coz they are heaps better than the BA, especially in the handling department.

Much more character than a BA too.... Plus there is something odd about those BA owners....

Don't listen to them you know you want a manual XR, I can't think of one thing that a BA can do better than an AU hence the reason I have an AU and not a BA. Remember you want to upgrade so why would yo go from an AU to a BA? :

LOL!!

I'm sorry.. but i've owned an AU2 forte and i now own a BA XT. Theres no comparison. I'm by no means dissing AU's, i love them.. but in comparison, my AU felt agricultural to drive compared to me BA. If this guy buys a BA with the insurance money, he won't regret it.

IMO the AU3 Forte has more character looks-wise then a BA XT. The AU's are better on fuel too.

ha ha stockoau
i like things about both the BA and the AU
but for me, the difference is the initial accelleration feel. The BA feels like it takes half a second to put all the power to the wheels, the AU is INSTANT. and thats the straw that breaks the camels back for me. AU over BA. 'nuff said.

Look on the bright side, you get to keep your AU

Any ETA on how long it will take to fix? From the damage, looks like it could be a while.

all aami repairs are guaranteed I believe, certainly in his sort of repair.

Good to see the AU's are still worth repairing too. In your case I'd say the damage is mostly cosmetic otherwise they would have wrote it off so it will come back and drive as good as before hopefully.

AAMI repairs are gauranteed for life which is a good thing because im pretty sure AAMI goes with the cheapest quote, so you need the guarantee.

Good to see its repairable, i thought it was and its good so see that AU are still being fixed up. Look at the bright side, youll get a nice new front end, nothing beats a nice new bonnett and bumper, plus being in flat red youll probably get a perfect colour match.

Why don't you do some haggling with the repairer and AAMI to get an XR front put on it?

The whole front's got to be redone, go the XR front end. It'll look great I reckon.

An idea anyway.

S2/S3 front - Classier and less ugly than an XR front, especially if it's a mont/ghia grille and bezel etc

From what my brother was saying when he smashed his magna on a roo and wanted the verada-style headlights, the insurance had agreed to pay the repairer x-dollars for the repairs. He found out how much it would cost to pay to get the lights he wanted, and just paid the extra direct to the repairer.

I'm pretty sure that's what happened.

I doubt you'll have any luck with the insurance company covering it, they will only pay to have it put back to pre-accident condition. However if the repairer is willing I'm sure you could work something out. Good luck!
