I've had my licence for 20 years (+ 1 year of P's), but there isn't an option in the poll for me.

Does Australia have a Manual License and an Automatic license?
Someone posted "Had a Manual License for ## years" - just curious.

Some states in Australia only let you drive a manual if you have a manual licence. Others allow auto and manual on the one licence and i'm fairly sure if you transfer from one state without the differences you get the manual licence in the other..
I've been driving for 4 ish years.. full licence for less than a year, P plates and L's for the rest of that time.

Thanks mate, much appreciated. I think that's a good idea.
NZ doesn't have that law as far as I'm aware.

Cheers!!

In NSW if you pass your driving test in an Auto you only Auto licence.

The same with Trucks, if you pass your HV test in a Truck with synchro box -Euro and Jap usually- you cant drive a truck with a 'crash' box -most US based trucks.

I ticked the "Over 40 Years" box, I too got my licence in SA on my 16 birthday

Interesting poll, the two highest results, 17%, are for less than one year and over 25 years, good to see a broad section of members.
I'm in the 25 plus category, you younguns, heres a tip, when waiting to turn left and behind another car, if it moves off don't presume it really has or you will run into their rear and your at fault, always have a second look.
To these idiots that do this (stop again that is), don't hesitate just boot it.

So are you the same vintage as some of those loonies on NZ Motorway patrol? They would never pass a driving test, some of them .

Yea, there's some crazies on that show isn't there.

When I think back now handing out a full driving licence to anyone of that age was just plain crazy, we all had no respect for the driving laws or for that matter anyone else on the road at all, it's way too young imo.

I smashed my mums car up so many times, she made me buy it!!.........bright orange Austin 1300, "not a very good chick magnet for a young fella I can tell ya."

I hit a tree, a brick wall, a bendy bus and numerous cars all in the space of about 12 months.

Speeding tickets..........used to collect em, nobody every used to worry about them, no demerit points in those days.

I'm probably lucky to still be alive today the way we used to get around in those days.........they were crazy times.

Full licence Dec 75 so that's 31 years. I remember back in those days it was really cool to have "P" plates but not now.

Must admit, couldn't wait to get off them though, 1 year was plenty at the max restricted speed of 90kph.

Is it still 90kph on P's or is there a difference between red & green?
