yes, an engine that has a disgracefull crash engine.. have you not tried Live for Speed seeing you are into these games??

1NSANE was a hell of alot of fun, and AFAIK the only game you can bend your car in half?
I must admit I prefer RFactor over Live for Speed, mostly due to the availability of mods. I like playing V8 Supercars in RFactor, then going and doing some F1s, then historics. The range of mods available for Rfactor kills what's available for Live for Speed. I still like Live for Speed though.

And in Carmageddon 2, you could bend your car in half ;)

yeah good call, i must admit that i do thoroughly enjoy pelting the carerras around winton in RFactor, but you have to concentrate so hard on not touching anyone in fear of unrealistically being spat off the track...

when the 3rd installment of LFS is released, it's going open code so the mods will come inthick and fast ;)

My fav old game was Street Rod 1 & 2.

you reckon forza is more realistic than gt 4?
the cars all sound different, particularly when they have different engines, but sound is secondary to handling, to which you cant fault gt 4, at least it doesnt allow stupidly unrealistic mods like putting a skyline engine into a silvia, turning it into a car that gets no traction at all speeds and gears, realistic? not one bit!
the suspension and engine tweaking tools on gt 4 are amazing, give the car a little extra camber and watch the lap time drop, i love it.

and stealth, yeah i remember lotus challenge, was the sickest game on a commodore 64, it was fully hard too.

I believe Forza is a more realistic representation than GT4, yes.

Forza offers choice, if you want to do something stupid you can go right ahead and do it. People do stupid things to stupid cars all the time. Do you consider it realistic that you can take your tweaked engine in a GT4 car, stick it on a straight, reach maximum speed, plough into an armco, bounce right off and continue on your merry way?

I enjoy GT4 for what it is but I find it too clinical. It has no soul or character. The AI are too robotic and completing challenges at the top levels requires insane amounts of patience.

FTR, I'd have to put down Grand Prix Legends right up there in my favorites, closely followed by any SimBin product.

Oh also,

The whole grand theft auto series... not really a racing game (or is it?)
But all of them have been absolutely brilliant with their cars... seen the latest one?

Get ****ed go driving. hit something hard enough and fly through the windscreen

Being a very big fan of car games I've played them all (on pc)

1. Street Rod 2 (1990)
2. The Need For Speed SE (1995)
3. Test Drive (1989)
4. Need for Speed: Porsche 2000 (2001)
5. Need for Speed 3: Hot Pursuit (1997)
6. Need for Speed: Underground 2 (2004)
7. Stunts (1992)
8. GT Legends (2006)

Touring Car Champions (first game on PC to feature an aussie Falcon but was pretty bad)
Holden Dirt Track Racing Australia (worst game ever!!!!!!!!!!)

Test Drive Unlimited is worth a mention for the choice of cars, large open world and graphic detials but I found the driving physics were shocking not too mention the scenery was very repeatitive....

The Race Driver/V8 Supercar series is very good as well but you really need a steering wheel to play the game. Otherwise you loose too much speed through the corners and makes it very difficult to keep pace let alone pass 11 cars in 3 laps (as per most of the race formats)

Im a fan of TDU - The big map and the ability to race people online randomly is good - The physics are horrible indeed but every who plays it has the same problem . Being able to mono a M4 August at 300 klicks is fun also - breaks up the game play a bit

I was lookign forward to it before release and pre-ordered it. When I first got it I thought it was great but after a while I just kinda got bored. PC didn't see any of teh car packs that the xbox did but did include a skyline in an update.

And If it is suppost to be Hawaii where are the sites??? Ford island is empty no battleships? no sunken ships? nothing....

i wasnt trying to say putting a skyline engine into a silvia was stupid, what was stupid was that forza would make a car with this done to it have the equivalent of ten bazillion horsepower and never get traction due to this, which isnt realistic, yeah silvias with skyline engine may be fast, but they still wont be as powerful as some big block v8's when it comes to losing traction.
this just soured that game for me
yeah and gt 4's crash physics suck, but what're you doing crashing anyway? its all about smooth lines bro... :

I forgot to mention in my last post that I've been playing a LOT of Trackmania United Forever lately. Bought it (full version) off Steam when they had it half price for a weekend.

Carmageddon was incredibly addictive/amusing. A pioneer of sorts, for sure.

Street Rod 1 & 2 were also faves when I was younger.

GTA 1 & 2 (3 and the other titles are lame, IMO, butchered to death) kept me hooked on a rare occasion too.

As for car games post 2000, I can't say I like any I've seen.

C64 ruled on this game. I used to crack Street Rod with Fast Hack'em

Test Drive, V8 Supercars 2 (could have been slightly better, but the other cars are good too, I loved racing the Caterham Clubman)

V8 Supercars 1 sucked bad, very bad coding. Concept was there, just not the proper physics of the car, nor the proper layout of the track
No 2 was better, haven't tried 3 yet.

Trackmania (mind bending car game)
I dont like GRID, too hard to be fun

I have Grand Prix on the Atari 2600 - not as fun as it used to be!
