eeergh, don't start me on caronas. I'd rather have that VB.

I don't mind the occasional XXXX, its a good cheap beer, and if you let it sit about 6months before you drink it, they're bloody good. Oh, and yes. I do in fact have all of my teeth, i don't wear flanels and thongs, and i don't smoke winnies blue. So i guess the bogan theory is bunk.

good ol Cairns must have changed a bit since i lived there in the mid eighties. you want goats **** try Cairns draught. the only reason Qlders drink XXXX is its easy to spell and the barmaid knows which lever to pull
one of my faves would be redback from west aus, but living here in Qld is difficult to get if at all.

I worked in a bottleshop in Brisbane and the number one beer we sold every day was XXXX Gold. XXXX was the next big seller then Tooheys New, it pretty much depended on the price or the special for the month with beers.

I am a beer drinker and love drinking Kilkenny, especially by the pint.

dead set? ill drink anything that cold but f**k it if its available for a good price corona me please. in my case it was free so even better.

been getting a good deal on cascade premium. great aussie beer but a bit pricey. ive been getting $15 off so its on $35 a case, which is compairable to VB... only in price though... tastes a s**tload better.

Tooheys Old is the best* end of story

I remember when I lived in QLD, it was the choice between XXXX, XXXX gold and even more XXXX and XXXX gold. I found gold to be **** but regular XXXX isn'r to bad.

*I think this post needs some more X's lol

As for Fosters... :
Best, Hahn and Cascade are words that don't belong together.

Coopers are the best beers going around at the moment. Lets hope Lion Nathan keep their grubby hands off Coopers Brewing, before they make it like the crap they sell.

Impulse, yup check that site out. Spend a couple of hours on it and you'll see how easy and fun it can be. After you have one of your own or someone elses decent homebrew the local stuff is nothing more than crap. More satisfying too. Buy a fermenter, some good quality ingredients and go through some recipes.

Local aussie beers are rubbish (except Matilda Bay, Boags, Little Creatures and Coopers), they use special ways to simulate the real way of brewing and the taste suffers. Our beers have nothing on the Belgian and European stuff after you taste them!

i'd be interested in chatting to you about that stuff mate - my dad installs breweries over here, and we had looked into importing such items, but for the market over here, it wasn't viable for the quantities we needed to purchase.

for those of you who are interested, my dad installed Little Creatures in Freo, Colonial Brewery in M.River, and a mate of his, and one of my clients, is the head brewer at the Sail & Anchor - so we get kegs pretty cheap! :P

Wow I got alot of replies here. You guys must like your beer or something :

I'll definately give that homebrew a lookover. I've never thought of brewing my own beer, always thought it would be too much trouble.

Actually it's quite the opposite- for a simple kit brew, combine the kit can (with the malt extract and hop inside) with around a kilo of brewing sugar and/or malt exctract, stir it up, add around 21Lt water, pitch the yeast, screw on the lid and keep it at a constant temp for a week or so before bottling for 2-3 weeks and you have 5 gallons (25Lt) of grog for under $25Au bucks!

That was simplified, but the general drift. Once you do one you want to try everything!

Used to buy fosters everywhere. I think that was like 15 years ago. Then you couldn't buy it no more.

Fosters is crap. VB isn't much better.

Cairns draught? Oh yeah, i think we used to have a local brewery. I doubt you could find any of that stuff anymore. Mind you, haveing mentioned local brewers, I highly recommend pretty much everything from "The Brewery" in townsville. Mmmmm Burdican gold (sp?).

the brewery used to be the old post office. i never went there when we were in townsville but i heard they had some "nice" cosmopoloton beers.
back to the old brewery in Cairns. i was there when the gas cylinder on the train blew up and took half the pub with it. 1987 i think.

if i want to have a drink it's usually a bundy, but if i'm out driving i'l have a sterling (spelling?) or cascade premium light. try brewing your own your first half down batches may not taste that good but once you get the hang of it you can probly make better stuff than you can buy
