So will this have all the diagrams and writing silk screened back on? or will it just be painted over, and you'll have to remember which knob does what?

well after 600kms of driving in the last 2 days i now have 1 and 2 halves of a ba dash, BA Air box, BA Steering Column, ba xr6 front and lights (now fitted to the misses BA) 2 rear power window regs, alot of speaker wire (to hook the up), a premo sound amp and sub (for the ba)
Dash 1 - From FTG auto salvage - $375 - Great condition but missing a few buttons and has a proper looking cover over the passanger airbag... i thought all BAs had duel airbags...?
Dash 2 - X Drag Car from a Exhaust Place - $170 - its Grey :( but couldnt say no lol... when i stopped at the closest wreckers they said dont have anything but go see this bloke hes building a BA drag Car and might still have the dash... sure enough he did, came with cup holders, vents, auto shifter (not that i need it), good passanger airbag , BA Airbox, Steering Column
Dash 3 - Free one in above pics - $0 - missing everything... pretty much just got to make sure i wasnt about to waste my cash...

i think you can help me blueprint... does your au have one or 2 airbags...?
in one of the ba dashs i got a blank airbag cover with a little loom that just connects one wire to the other (no airbag errors when passanger airbag is removed) just wondering if the AU is like this...?

Cheers Cam

I'll hit a wall and find out for you... might help get rid of my current frustration too...

On another note... i noticed with my S1 climate controls that the dials are 2 seperate parts... the silk printing is on a 2nd piece of plastic that holds the buttons and dials... BONUS!

Hey cam,

You've done a lot of work, it's shaping up nicely! Just curious.. Will you be using a BA cluster or an AU cluster? I know it might be tricky, but it might be worth trying to get the AU cluster electronics inside a BA cluster just to give it that complete look

yes i plan on buying a XT Cluster to have a play with..., but this wont happen for another month or 2... now for my current problem...i have done this (found this doing a search)

anyway i did everything but the dash the weekend after i bought it, and put the dash in the too-hard-for-now basket.
well last saturday i decided it was taking up too much room in the garage, so bit the bullet and got stuck into it. surprisingly it was all pretty straight forward and it all went together nicely. my one mistake was that when dropping the steering column, i went to find something to support it with, but then bumped it accidentally, and it fell to the floor - it had pushed through the firewall into the engine bay and was quite loose. anyway i sort of pulled it back in and got it tight but was still plenty of engine noise so took it to ford today to get them to fix it. they charged me 3 hours labour ($366) to remove and re-fit the bearing that holds the steering column.
they said that they would normally remove the steering column entirely when doing this kind of job. my question for future reference is - how do you remove the steering column? is it just a case of undoing the small screw i saw at the base of it?
the only good news was the ford bloke said if they'd done the dash swap it would've been well over $1k in labour...
the black interior is very nice though i must say. just need to find a few bits and pieces the wrecker forgot to include like the steering wheel, gear knob, glovebox and a few other things...
fter some advice on getting this bush in... im not the biggest fan or giving money to mechanics... i cant really get the bush in because its in such a tight spot... i can see 3 bolt from the engine side that hold the plate on... looks like it should come off pretty easy... (you think this would help...?)

also how would i remove the whole steering column...? (could make the job easier) i can see one bolt on top of the shaft inside the cabin just before the firewall???

Hehe.. for those that are interested they are from the Max Ellery manual... well worth the $40 odd dollars although they do miss things (ie refer to removal of passenger airbag section... there is no passenger airbag section lol)

Cam, got another random question for you... Do the aircon vents line up properly? I mean, in theory they should because they are in very similar locations, but if they are *slightly* off will it affect airflow that much?

At the end of the project, you should write a summary of how much it costs and whether you'd recommend it to others who want to try it.. me being one of those who are really keen in the results. Keep up the good work

I was planning in making a patch lead for it... using as many of the AU sensors as possible and adding new ones if need be.

no worries... i have just created my own looms so doesn't reallt apply to AUs..?

Purchased
- BA Door Trims with Power Window Buttons - $40? (ebay)
- AU/BA Rear Left and Right Window Regulators - $82.50 Each (Kingswood Country - Melbourne)
- 2 x 12M of Speaker Wire (i think its about 12 gauge - Supercheap Auto) - $25
- Nulon Ezy Glide Silcone Spray- $13 (Super Cheap Auto)

(Please note i have not yet wired up the rears to the front switch so im not sure if i have calculated the pins etc correct... these pin numbers are from looking at the back of the switch of a Non Back Lit Switches)

BA Single Switch Pins

1-2
3-X

X-4
5-X

Has only been tested with 1 Connected to 12V Acc Wire and 2 + 5 Grounded

1 = Power Supply From Front 4 Window "Lock" Switch
2 = To 4 Window Switch "Up" (Depending on what window your wiring up)
3 = To Motor Reg + (Red)
4 = To Motor Reg - (Blue)
5 = To 4 Window Switch "Down" (Depending on what window your wiring up)

Hey all got it all in for the all ford day this sunday... as of now i have no time left for the car... (to many things to organise) so it all in and working... not real happy with the fascia... i can see this being attempt 1 of 4 or 5 lol...
but hears a few pics

also had a problem with the door locks... it would appear that the BA interior door handle cables are slightly longer than the au. so when the interior door handle is in its home position the cable is slightly pulled...(so when you lock the car then open the outside door handle it unlocks all the doors pretty much what the inside door handle does) this doesnt affect anything other than that i have fixed this ... pics later (in a week or so)
