To be fair though, that's mixing the AUD with the USD. Everest at $77k here would buy $57k worth of car in the US at current exchange. Still high enough to buy a Porsche Macan S or a Q7 but

I've got a lot of customers who I do accessory fitment on their new Prados for them, seems like the Everest isn't getting a look in from these people in my area.

The Everest is probably the better car in all ways, but it doesn't have the Toyota badge or Prado name.

Reputation is what sells these things unfortunately.

When I was in the USA 2014, the Expedition LTD with the V10 diesel was $55k drive away. For another $3k I could add 3feet to its length!!!!!!!! It had electric remote side steps, tailgate, 3rd row seats. Passenger seat was electric adjustable, drivers seat went back when door was opened and went forward to programmed position when key put in ignition. When I looked at Explorer, etc and saw what they get and we dont get, we are short changed. No reason why Territory, Everest shouldnt have more kit for the price, especially Titanium models...Hows that for negativity Smoke Pursuit!!!!

So based on this logic, my Focus ST which I paid around $39K, should really be costing at least $80K because it was manufactured in Germany, where the value of the Euro is higher than the Aussie Dollar and therefore the average worker in Germany earns a lot more.

What a steal!!

Last time I checked we don't live in America big fella. Every single car here is priced way higher not just the Everest. You can't compare other countries to here. Its not just cars, everything is more expensive here but thats a different topic all together. If your issue is with the price of all cars in AUS then believe me I'm with you but apples for apples the Everest is reasonably priced when compared to its major competitor, the Prado. Ill say it again, just because the sales aren't there at the moment doesn't mean they won't come over time. I know a few long time Hilux owners who now have Rangers. No reason why Prado owners won't do the same once the reputation gets some backing. Ranger is the most expensive dual cab on the market, doesn't seem to be hurting sales at all now they have a good reputation and image.

FWIW I just came back from the states a few weeks ago and hired an XLT Expedition with the TTV6 to cruise around in the snow for a month. Great rig id love one here.

This. Ford trying to reprice itself to be in the league of a Premium brand would be like KMart selling $1000 leather bags they made in China just because they saw LV doing it. . The more vehicles they make using cheap labour, it's only fair that they pass these savings on to the customer, as Kmart do.

We get it, you don't like Thai built Fords with cheap labor. One would think you get paid every time you make this point. It's get's tiring to read in every thread.

They can try, but ultimately, they're unlikely to succeed. As it becomes common knowledge that the cars are built in Asia, customers perception of the quality and therefore the value of the product falls, and the price has no option but to follow suit.

Most car buyers don't care where their cars are built. Most would not even check. For a test I asked my sister where her focus was made and she came back with Japan. People don't care about cars. It's just an a to b transport that can get them past c sometimes

Everest is a thai built pos that is over priced?
Yet Landcruisers are something to behold?
Not that long ago everyone thought jap cars were cheap rubbish,
look where they are now and this is where the Landcruiser came from.
"When the Imperial Japanese Army occupied the Philippines in 1941 they found an old*Bantam Mk II*Jeep and promptly sent it to Japan. The Japanese military authorities ordered Toyota to make a similar vehicle but to change the appearance."
If Ford keep up development and quality the Ranger and Everest may well be in the same company as Toyotas also overpriced Hilux and Cruisers.

I guess they have to figure out the balance of profit vs sales.
So they want to sell 100 cars at $10,000 profit each
Or sell a 1000+ cars with a $1000 profit each

To be fair, by the time the IJA remanufactured that Jeep the country had a long history of industrial excellence which included A5M & A6M fighters, supremely tough Shokaku class aircraft carriers, the oxygen driven 24" Long Lance torpedo, and revolutionary destroyer design; maybe it is something innate? Post war successes certainly point to this.

No, but you can by building a premium product, which Ford have done here. All the reviews I've read indicates that the Everest is a better car than the Prado, with much better on road manners and comparable performance off road.

When Ford builds a good car, buyers will come.

What does it matter where it's built, and how much workers get paid? Have you seen how advanced its plant in Thailand is? Have you ever wondered how much just one of those Kuka robots cost?

What about the cost of design and development of the car? What about the cost of components that aren't built in Thailand? What about the cost of shipping the car over here? Engineering the technology that goes onto the car? Testing for ADR compliance? That costs nothing, does it?

There is a lot that goes into the cost of producing a car. I honestly don't get why there is so much emphasis on where the car gets built. What matters more is the badge on the bonnet because that badge is the badge of origin of the product - it is the badge which sets the standard by which the car gets built.

These are entirely different cars in entirely different markets where the market factors that drive sales are entirely different. The Spark is in the market where price rules and profit margins are kept to a minimum in order to make sales to consumers for whom all that matters is price. Everest, on the other hand, is at the other end of the market, those who want an off-road capable SUV will pay for a better product.

When GM can sell an Everest competitor for 15K on road, then we can talk.

$55K USD = $72,679.22 AUD. Let's say for argument's sake that Ford dropped the price for an Everest Titanium to $70K drive away. Would you buy one? If not, then it's pointless having this discussion, because we're engaging in hypotheticals. Despite the current pricing, it's been reported that about 25% of all Everests sold are Titaniums, so clearly, there are people that are prepared to pay what Ford wants for one.

So is a Mercedes-Benz C-class for that matter. Though I've never been in a new W205 C-class, I haven't read any complaints as to its build quality. And people do pay $70K - $80K for one.

The badge matters more than where it's built.

When you want to compare wages from one country to another do your home work properly, fair enough they are on lower wages but for their economy compared to our here is a comparison.

Their workers are not that disadvantaged compared to us.

As long as the vehicle has build quality to justify the price I have no problems.
