I use a BMC panel filter cause they supposedly flow better than K&N.

When i had my car tuned at BLUE POWER, Chris washed the BMC and blew it dry with
an air compressor and just left it dry, he told me he does it with all his cars and has
never had a problem so i've continued doing it like that.

in QLD its perfectly fine to have a filter hanging in mid air in your engine bay as long as its secure (bracket bolted to somthing and attached to either the piping or looped under the clamp that holds the filter on)

lukey does do an un oiled filter now yes

I have a Lukey washable filter in the wagon and it's not oiled and said nothing about oil on the box. Hasn't needed more than a blast out with some high pressure air so far. As for performance gains, it's hard to tell beyond better response as the wagon only has a XR8 type snorkle but still a stock exhaust so although the air can get in faster it can't get out any quicker.....yet.

Honestly i dont think a K&N, BMC or the likes makes much difference at all to the above mentioned. That sais i do have a K&N in my TE though and have had one in all my cars, solely for better filtration

BMC panel in the Territory ... and I had a Redline panel in the old AU work ute (looks identical to a K&N ... but only $80 ... probably made in the same factory).

The Redline was looking a little worn after about 180,000km though (it was regularly cleaned though) ... it was time for a new one ... but instead I just traded the ute in. LOL

I would advise against using the K&N recharge kit. The BMC Cleaning Kit contains a low viscosity oil which is designed specifically for the BMC filter. From what I've heard the BMC one is designed to take that particular oil and unlike some of the other ones, the BMC Oil is designed not to foul up the air flow metre. I'm pretty sure you can pick one up from any Autobarn and most performance workshops. Even if they don't have it on the shelf they can get it in from the distributor.

i did a lot of research on these and other things and the things that are illegal or require an engineers certificate is mind boggling.
Not sure how this would be possible. Engine oil vapour finds its way into the inlet tract to be consumed by combustion on every single emission controlled engine. That is the system on every car from factory.

The only thing that a K&N filter would do would be to foul up the air flow metre if it is over-oiled or not maintained properly. BMC Air Filter cleaning oil is designed to avoid this problem all together.

I've also never heard of throttle body gumming up because of an air filter. The throttle position sensor is outside of the throttle body.

I'm pretty confident the only legal issues involve uncovered pod filters. Just make sure your air box is still intact or you've fitted a replacement enclosed airbox system.

in QLD you just have to have the pod filter securly mounted (a strip of steel thats bent in a logical way that attaches to a bolt and loops under the filters clamp is fine)

i use BMC and the difference in my exhaust note was fantastic. response is better also. i picked it up from autobarn for $120 because they ran out of k&n so i paid the price for k&n for the bmc which was about $140 from memory

I had a k&n panel which was great but now have a k&n pod in custom airbox, so much better, the ol' windsor loves it.

K&N Pod filter (the 9" jobbie) on the NF. Install & forget, I reckon. You only need to clean them every 50,000km.

On the explorer I have the BA Pod, and will be sourcing one for the AU when I get it (in the meantime I'll use another 9" K&N on the AU with a custom shield).

Matt's car doesn't have a MAF - just a MAP & AIT sensor, so any issues with clogging up MAFs are irrelevant when it comes to the 6's.

Best filter for an AU (6 or 8) is the BA XR8 Pod with re-usable BMC or K&N filter with snorkel adapter and lower air intake. Looks factory, flows heaps, is legal in every state and has the advantage of never having to replace a filter again (just clean every 50,000km)

Yep - it's not too hard. Just a rubber elbow from the TB to the Filter housing. I also have a snorkel which connects to the side of the XR8 pod through the panel and engine bay sheet metal, but that's a different issue (can't imagine too many AUs wanting a snorkel, lol)
