Ok, been shopping so haven't been able to respond!

I've bought:

300 Sausages;
300 slices bread;
25 Bags onions;
10 big trays;
4 food covers;
4 long tongs;
2 30m rolls foil;
12 tea towels;
4 knives;
2 big bottles of sunscreen;
500 serviettes;
4l tomato sauce (need dispensers!!);
4l bbq sauce (need dispensers!!);
8 bags of ice;
2 packs of panadol (for us...we might need em ;) )

Down at Rocklea suits me fine - whoever is getting the least help is fine by me.

Sounds like a plan has been hatched for a southside meet-up which makes sense if we are going south. Who knows a spot?

Okay

Ive bought

240 bottles of water
180 cans of coke
192 cans of variety softdrink.

Total 612 drinks..

1 Bbq Trailer will be picked up in the morning...

I wanted more water but my mum donated a fair bit of softdrink she had at home already, so the extra was just a bonus.

Now my g/f emma is baking as many cup cakes as she can tonight, hopefully we will have 100 or so cupcakes but we will see how she goes (shes just started now).

Guys eskis and ice will be my only worry.. I dont have alot of room left in the ute now and its overloaded in the tray weight wise so any help with ice would be greatly appreciated. By the time i hook the trailer on its going to be a heavy load!

Great effort guys... really well done.

Well this morning, I loaded up the XR8 with a shovel, a broom and an eskie full of water and beer. Went to Chelmer and stopped at the first house I could find and asked if they needed a hand.

Ended up completley cleaning this guys house that was about 1.2m under. He had a few mates, so in no time we had his house sorted. Then offered them a cold brewskie and then we all went next door and did the same.

We all then trekked down to his mates place down the road and tackled his house that was 3m under... yes 3m.

It was an awesome day, I am knackered, but it felt good helping people knowing that it was the right thing to do. Tomorrow, I will be doing the same.

I have to add, these places right now look like a war zone. Seriously it is heartbreaking work. The devastation is massive, and going through and throwing out people's lives on the sidewalk is just.... debasting. It was truly a humbling experince. And I can't wait to get back there tomorrow.

There were a number of "street bbq's" like in the front yard with people. The owner of the first house, had a few snags in his eskie (he had no power) and he threw them on the bbq for us. Quite a few people did this. But I agree with your suggestion of Rocklea, as they may not do this.

It’s getting pretty bad down here. I was going to try get up there as I’m not working at the moment but it looks like I’ll be helping out a lot closer to home.

Yep. Rocklea should be the place to go. What I meant in my post was that there were a few in Chelmer.

Sorry to go OT, but how many scumbags can there be in this country...

So i've advertised my mothers caravan for sale a few days ago, just now i recieved a msg from some dirtbag asking my best cash price as they need it to take to QLD for emergency accommodation to help clean up...please, if you could afford the best part of 10k for my van and then drag it 2200kms you could afford to give me a call.

I told them i dont accept paypal, funny money or bank cheque...i would accept a direct bank transfer at my local branch however, that way me and my 12 gauge mate can weigh them up personally first...just in case, ya know.

Hey, it may be legit, i doubt it, but im happy to wait until someone rings, like the good ol' days.

Im still waiting a reply

I wonder if he really is planing on taking up there for “emergency accommodation”, or is he trying to make a quick buck renting or selling it at an inflated price to some poor bugger whose house has been destroyed. I think you have your answer in his reply, or lack of it.

All you guys and gals involved in this venture tomorrow and Sunday, just prove once again to me that great Aussie spirit of mate-ship and digging in to help in times of tribulation is still alive and well in this country.

Kudos to all of you.

I've been telling your story around a few other fora, and here is a reaction from a Yank friend on another forum who now resides here.

That's the ****** I like to see. It reminds you that we're not all a bunch of ******* caught up in our lives. I saw the same mentality when the so-cal wildfires hit, and there were so many people helping out, giving up their homes, showers, internet, anything they could do to help each other out. And in San Diego of all places, where there only thing that faker than the silicone **** on every other girl were the smiles of the people around you out in the world. Sad thing is that I knew it wouldn't last. I hated that feeling, it made me resent the place all the more. Out in the midwest over there, looking out for your neighbors tends to be a sustainable exercise. It's that same attitude I see there in the forums all over sites like FB as well right now, and it's good to see. It was the same damn thing as two years ago with the fires here, and the thing is that it never really went away, that concern for what was lost. I appreciated it greatly, because it's how it should always be, not something you kick under the rug soon as the next political drama unfolds on TV that's intended to divide the public.
Says it all really...

P.S...Do you jokers wanna organise my next BBQ?
