I say good luck to them, I like our Social systems here in Australia.
OK, allowing gross generalisations I will add mine!!!

The demographic you have outlined has two kinds of voter. Those people are all battlers, but a huge amount of them want to keep or get a good job and do not want to be reliant on the above. = Trump supporter

The remainder who dont want a job and want to be supported by the system are not Trump supporters. (gross generalisation, but there IS truth in there somewhere)

So this is where the vitriol pointed at the grass roots, red hat wearing and apparently dumb Trump supporter is so vile. They are not horrible people. They are not dumb. They probably know he is the biggest, most blatant liar ever to be president. But they dont care, because by fighting for the American Machine, he is fighting for them.

We have a large operation in one of the states in the US. And you would have no idea they would have voted red, but they did.

People need to stop generalising an entire population or society based on what they see on TV or based on a couple of "leaders".

Imagine if Americans thought we were all Pauline Hansons or Clive Palmers (no offence to their supporters), just because they get a bit of air time.

whilst we speak the same language and have a similar heritage they are vastly different people to us. Mind you it would be great if most Aussies had the same patriotic spirit as they seem to, but we keep our 'caring for others' attitude

The ones I interact with call us a 'liberal' country, too generous to the under-privileged

Mind you they call us 'convicts' when are getting cheesed with us, which always invokes a laugh and this response form me - "you do understand that America was a dumping grounds for UK criminals long before Australia - it wasn't until your War of Independence that they sent them here instead" that generally shuts them up pretty quick, coz most have no idea we share the same heritage

What you see on TV of the flag waving red or blue's they are are a minority and generally the vast majority are the same as us, you wouldn't know who was a Dem or who was a Rep. There is a generalisation that everyone in the movies and on TV are 'liberal's' until one of them speaks out in favour of the Rep's then they are hero's lol

Interesting string of events. Draw your own conclusions.
  1. Wall built around WH
  2. General Services Administration won't sign transition letter
  3. Secretary of Defence fired.
  4. Top Pentagon Policy official resigns (fired?), replaced by someone who once called Obama a terrorist leader.
  5. Department’s top civilian officials for policy and intelligence resign enmass.
  6. Pompeo talks smooth transition on a Trump 2nd term.

Where is Alex Jones these days?

Absolutely correct, the country was built on "the American Dream" It was go and stake your claim, not go and put your hat out. It was if you fall, pick yourself up and try again.

Right or Wrong, it resulted it the most powerful, richest country in history, up till now, we will see what happens in the next 20 years.

on a related side note - how an early American kid would have answered this question that we expect a different answer in todays world

that attitude was fine when there was work for everyone, manufacturing was done internally, people employed because they needed manpower

Times are very different now, they sold their manufacturing off, just like us, mostly to China, their car industry relies on Gvmt handouts to survive like ours did until the current Gvmt stopped the support

Now most of American manufacturing is a waste land, and not everyone can get employed in 'tech' jobs. Technology creates unemployment, the more people invent machines to do what people do there is going to be unemployment

Want to watch something interesting, or read something interesting, Google 'Flint', a former GM town - enjoy, coz they don't

We used to ride horse and carts too.

I agree we need to balance tech and jobs, I think you will find CV19 was a little wake up to most nations. If that doesnt change anything then nothing will.

How is Trumpypoo going today anyway, his swing is getting a good work out.

I guess the Hollywood stars will be happy, they can keep bringing their underpaid, illegal immigrant workforce in to care for their properties.

I am going to laugh like hell in here when all the court cases have been done and dusted and Trump is the loser

And typical, a few can't debate rationally so they turn to personal insults, the one who looks stupid is you, you are showing the world your level of intelligence, that you can't debate, you can just throw insults. When it starts, it is indicator that you have nothing left to argue with

I really hope our political system and media don't start implementing the same tactics here.
The media do the same tactics here, remember how they attacked the QLD Premier 24/7. I remember it well, always spinning total rubbish and hoping something would stick with the average dolt that has no real understanding of reality.
The Socialist went Sir Joh just like they did with Trump. with an open cheque book they spent millions of tax payers money on a full on witch hunt, just as they have with Trump, they also tried every trick in the book spinning lying games with the election results as well. it's all the same dirty tactics that Socialist like Hitler and the Communist did.

Lets fact it Trump has Won ! the truth will come out with the cunning of the Socialist rat bags game play.

There is an obvious common theme going. People follow their leaders. Ignore it, keep it civil.

There is a loooooomg way to go yet with election 2020 and it would be a shame to have the thread locked.

Coz it if it serious
* I hope you pay full tilt for your visit to a Dr or Specialist (no Medicare benefit)
* I hope you pay full tilt and don't get your scripts from Chemist Warehouse
* I hope you are paying the high tax bracket of over 40%
* I hope you don't use sick leave
* I hope you don't take paid annual leave
* I hope you don't take paid long service leave
* I hope you don't take your bosses Superannuation contribution

But if it is T.I.C. then

Just a point here, just coz I don't think Trump has won, doesn't mean I support the other side. I think Trump is the wrong President for the USA, but that doesn't mean I think Biden is, he is 78 FFS!!! Is that the best they can do? Trump is not inclusive and as I have said you need to make a team effort if you want to pull your country out of the doldrums. Biden's 'acceptance' speech was far better than what I heard from Trump in a long time, plus I don't have a Twitter account so miss all the posts

Funny thing is a close mate of mine has lived in Georgia for years and is a massive Trump supporter.
Had his house rebuilt by Mexicans after it was destroyed in a huge storm and has it cleaned by Latinos.
Such hypocrisy really
