Default Cancer...Support Daffodil day 25 Aug

I've been avoiding this topic for a while now but i thought since its Daffodil Day on friday i can make this more about the disease then myself.

Just over 2 months ago i was diagnosed as having tumour which was cancerous in the floor of my mouth, (some of you may remember me complaining about ulcers in the ulcer thread). Lucky for me they said its treatable, but as some of you may know if you dont get it all, it can come back ten times worse. Well i had to undergo an operation which took 8 hours where they literally split my jaw and bottom lip and opened my face up like a book. They removed almost half my tongue which needed to be restructed with tissue, skin and an artery from my left forearm and then that needed a skin graft from my left leg. I also need a trachy.....(dunno spelling) but basically a tube in my neck so i could breathe, which was probably the hardest part of the whole op(it was in for a week). Its been 8 weeks since the op and im still not speaking properly or eating solid foods and im limited to use on my left arm.

Now there is some technical term for this cancer but basically its known as a smokers cancer......Funny thing is I DONT SMOKE. Im apprarently one of the 1% of people that get this cancer for no other reason but bad luck.

Im dont want peoples sympathy, i just dont want anyone to go through what i have so far (i start 6 weeks of radiotherapy tommoro). Thats why i ask you support a good cause in Daffodil day and help in the fight for a cure for cancer.

for more details you can got to the website www.daffodilday.com.au

or look out for mercahndise stands at your local shop.

And if people want proof that buying a Daffodil helps.. Fordy wouldnt have been able to have that operation 10 years ago. Supporting Daffodil day pays for the research to allow operations like this to be developed.
Hope you get well soon mate and I'll be buying a Daffodil (as I do every year)

Good form lads, can never have too much awareness. Ive had a few people close to me diagnosed with cancer in the last 12 months, just waiting for my number to come up.

Fordy - all the best with your treatment going forward. We all hope the worst is now behind you.

Hey Fordy, hope they got all the cancer and hope your luck turns around for the best.

Its funny how many people are affected by cancer these days. My dad passed away only a few weeks ago at 57yrs old from cancer. He had a small skin cancer on his leg which spread to his heart, lungs and brain, and finally killed him by cause of a stroke.

This is a charity I will definatly support because i can only hope that in years to come they will find a cure for cancer so no one else has to go through this.

My wife's Mum died 1 year ago last week. Cancer was the culprit. She also never smoked, but grew up around smokers. Passive smoking was what the doctors said probably was the root cause. We too will be making a large donation to the daffodil day cause. I hope all goes well for you Fordy.
Good luck with it all.

I beat cancer myself about 10 months ago. Hodgkins lymphoma. 3 months of chemo and 3 weeks of radiotherapy. Without the cancer council it would have made things so hard.

Lets all dig deep and support it all year.

Good luck Fordy. I know what your going through. Keep your chin up mate.

I will for sure,
I am currently expecting to hear within a week or so that my mother will pass away from cancer. Funny thing is its the secondary cancer thats killing her, not the primary (which is in her lungs) Never smoked either.
