Hi, there's some info here on Aussie car sales (near last paragraph) :
http://carsguide.news.com.au/story/0...-21822,00.html

The Focus is finally outselling the Astra- only six or so months ago the Astra was killing the Focus for sales and had been forever. The new model is definitely a winner over here.

Our Focus is sourced in South Africa, and were released for sale in Australia in July 2005. Although Ford Aus were basing sales of the 2002-05 Focus sales of the old model of around 400 per month i think, which wasn't too popular here in Australia due to high price (from being sourced from Uk or Germany, forget which) compared to the Astra and other Japanese/Korean cars offered cheaply here. Therefore most people were waiting around until November when they imported around 900 per month. They've ramped up the importing to around 2000 units per month and are starting to finally keep up.

Our Focus ST (XR5 Turbo in Australia, to coincide with the Falcon XR range) is imported from Germany though. We only get around 40 units per month.

Hit or a Miss? Most probabaly a hit. Its been a while since Ford small cars have been popular with misses with the KA and old model Focus. Before that we had the Ford Festiva (small 3 or 5 door hatch aka KIA Avella) and the Ford Laser (Restyled and rebadged Mazda 323)

This should look very familiar to you!
http://www.holden.com.au/www-holden/...y?vehicleid=26

I think the Astra will start getting back sales if/ when they put a better engine than the lame 1.8l petrol that is currently fitted. The AH model is too heavy for that engine! We've just had the diesel turbo and SRi petrol turbo Astra's released over here too, will be interesting to see how they sell.

Holden also sell the Astra wagon over here. Plus the three door / five door hatches, but no sedan (we did get one in the previous model shape IIRC?)

Ford.... well they only sell five door hatchback and four door sedan 2.0l petrol Focus, plus the XR5 turbo (ST in your language) in only five door. No Estate/ wagon. :(

well we get the estate, sedan, 3dr (the 3dr is the uglist!) and soon they will launch the cc version which has a folding metal roof, they also sell the focus c-max but that is a rather boring MPV. over here i think ford is about to hit the big time again with the s-max, which i have started a thread about because it is really attractive and quite fast (has the ST engine) and ford is getting oders even before it has been launched. ford sells on average 10,000 focuses here and is the top seller followed by the vauxhall astra and them the ford fiesta and other cars like volkswagens golf, renaults clio and peugeots 206/7. and the mondeo is in there too somwhere.
