G'day,
I've got a factory manual '98 XR8, only had it for a few months and am still working out (or trying to work out) what she's had done during the last 22 years. I've done some digging and found that oil coolers were only fitted to the AU2/3 220kw models. Could anybody tell me if this is the same sort of cooler the 220kw models have? Unless it's a power steering cooler! Cheers, Pete |

Yep that looks like a factory 220kw cooler. Follow the lines, there should be a sandwich plate between the block and the oil filter. Filter should be a Z89a.

Does it look to be mounted the same/factory way as the 220? The car is a bit weird, it has the white Tickford instrument panel, Momo steering wheel and gearknob (both old and worn) and the cam is different to the 185kw. |

That’s not the engine oil cooler. I don’t have access to my car at the moment, but I’m pretty sure that’s the PS cooler. The engine oil cooler is mounted in the top/centre position directly behind the grill with huge braided lines.

That is 100% the power steering oil cooler - not an engine oil cooler.

Yep, V8 power steering cooler and that style was fitted to series 1's so id say it came standard on your ride.
