Default Road surface and tyre noise

I am running Bridgestone Potenzas and have found them to be very good.

A local road has just been resurfaced and the tyre noise is a like a whine from a bad diff. Car is fine on other roads.

The surface is very smooth but have never come across anything like this before.

Has anyone else experienced this?

It can happen, particularly if the resurfacing is high in bitumen content - it's nothing wrong with the tyres, just the resurfacing and it will fade in fairly short order.

I had a set of Potenzas (among others) on my FGII XR6.

I found that the road surface really affected the level of tyre noise more than the other brands that I had on there. The tyre could be whisper quiet on some surfaces but howl like hell on others. There was no consistency either on whether the road surface was smooth or rough.

Yes I have found this with my Potenza's, theres a particular stretch on the freeway that makes quite a lot of noise, like driving over rumble strips but at a higher pitch and frequency. Not too bothered by it, they're so soft and wearing out that quickly I'll be replacing them soon.

They just redid part of Port Wakefield road and yeah it's got this horrible whine sound.

Driven over it in 3 different cars and it's all the same sound. Only my Volvo has Potenzas.

Thank you everyone for the feedback.
Was talking to one of the guys at work yesterday and told me there is a stretch of road he takes to travel to Gippsland and does exactly the same thing.

I had Coopers tyres on a Territory years ago, made it sound like an old government bus.
