Default ef radio installation problems

I have taken out the old radio and wired in the new cd/mp3/radio using an AERPRO WIRING HARNESS APP051 or an ef. but there is no sound from any speakers. Took out the new unit and wired ir on the bench to 4 old speakers and it all works. Put it back into the car and no sound, everything else seems to work. I have double checked all wiring ie all speaker wiring from the connector to the unit seems correct. All rear +ve wires to rear +ve on new unit etc
I've wired a similar unit to a hiace van and no problems. Any advice, e.g. do the speaker - ve's have to be commoned. Unit is an audiomaster am100mp3 from strathfield

this is a pre-made wiring harness?

I start by connecing the power and earth wires, then check that it powers up, then wire one speaker at at time using the fader and balance to make sure the sounds is goung to the right place.

If its premade loom though, check it against the wiring diagram for the sterero and the car to make sure its all going where it should be.

It is pre made harness, plugs directly into existing loom. Everything powers up ok, cd powers up, radio scans etc but no sound, havent tried eack speaker independently but have tried the fade and and balnce and still no sound. Checked the harness wiring against the wiring diagram on this site and all seem to match. up. Put back in the old radio and everything works. Taken it back out put in the new and nothing again.

sounds like u have a short from the + and - of any speaker, will cut the sound so it doesnt blow the deck and the speaker at fault.

no visible signs of a short in the connectors. If there was a short then whu does everything work when the old unit is plugged back in to the existing loom
Going crazy :

thanks EFGIAR - disconnected the connector to the rear speakers (separate connector in the ford wiring loom) and hey presto sound. Seems like you are right. Wires in the boot could be shorting, probably take a knocking about with all the grabage that gets thrown in there. but the ?? remains. If they were shorting or something why does the original unit work when put back in. Thanks guys for your time and ideas
