Ferrari has released the first official images of the limited edition LaFerrari Spider.

The open top LaFerrari will be available with a removable carbon-fibre hard top or a removable soft top.

It will make its official debut at the upcoming Paris motor show in September where its name and full details will be disclosed.

However, we know now that hypercar will feature the same running gear and engine, a 6.2-litre V12 and a 120kW electric motor which combine for 708kW and 970Nm.

The prancing horse has made extensive modifications to the chassis to help retain the same stiffness as the coupe variant. Ferrari has also worked hard on its aerodynamics to give the convertible the same drag co-efficient as the regular LaFerrari.

The open top hypercar was confirmed in May this year by Fiat Chrysler CEO and Ferrari chairman Sergio Marchionne. At the time, he said the only future model variant of the LaFerrari would be the Spider and that potential customers had already been approached.

Needless to say Ferrari has had success with the potential customers it approached, as all examples are already spoken for.

Not a fan of LaFerrari but for the first time ever, I am going to say the Spider looks better than the hardtop.

I saw one in the flesh on my trip to Italy (Modena). Car is on another planet. I would still take the Enzo that was next to it on the day I saw it though!

This looks more like a targa top than a soft top IMO. But that is good because I've never really been a fan of convertibles.
