The Amarok marketing strategy backfired.
Without the body sheetmetal, this dualcab looks poorly built.
Are Amaroks monocoque or do they have a frame?

I agree.In the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl0J4rEF-Jw

The first second shows the inner front strut of the car. Since structures don't change for the era of the model unless they decide to rebuild the entire chassis, generally core components will remain the same. In this case the suspension and mount are as identical to current Amarok models.

A bit of a wowzer ute in my opinion, has anyone seen a vw with a crusty cement mixer in the back yet?

Mercedes is basically a rebadged Navara with optional V6 TD (2018 release) and Hyundai still on drawing board.

The naked ute is a manual, so if it is the upgraded Amarok model it will be only the 4 cyl . If it was the V8 I thought would have been an auto.

True about the audio overlay. I remember top gear driving a Suzuki softroader with a big V8 rumble.

I do wish we had a reasonably priced ute in Australia with a big engine (v8). No, a troopie is not reasonably priced

Won't be a v8, the engine, trans etc and brakes to pull it up will make it a 100k ute, they'd sell as many as v6 monaros!! If its the 180kw 550 v6 diesel and 8 speed auto which will pump it to the top of the list of dual cab Utes, it's only just being pipped by the ranger in all dual cab ute reviews

i think there will be a massive hole in the market for a v8 ute once holden stops yes it will cost more then a holden ute but it will be a hole none the less

probably the only reason my olds might get another vw touareg is because of the I4 engine in the amarok 420hp/800nm AWD v8 ute in australia could sell well

very interested in seeing what/how they price it

Funny thing is Amarok is quicker than all dual cabs apart from Navara 550 . VW have done a good job with that small 4 cylinder diesel .they don't really need a V8 - 3l six TDI would be more than enough.

Not according to the latest testing.

Quote:
Indeed, we did our own performance testing (without a load on board), and found the Ford was easily the fastest from 0-100km/h, with an 11.1-second sprint. Next was the Navara (11.3sec), D-Max and Colorado (11.8sec), Amarok (12.2sec), Triton and BT-50 (12.4sec) and the slowest – by some measure – was the HiLux (13.5sec).

So none of them are quick then.

Not really the point of this type of vehicle is it.

True. But stick a 5m boat or a jayco pop-top on the back and test them against a falcon or commodore and watch the 0-100 times become a lot closer....

To a degree I agree, however when I pulled my 5.3 v6 sterndrive with a combines boat and trailer mass 1500kg (taking into account fuel and gear) from nowra to the west of sydney, I was sitting in the right lane up mount ously rd overtaking landcruisers and hi luxs pulling small aluminium boats or box trailers. The car (bf2 fairmont ghia) was on cruise and sat in 4th as opposed to 5th when unlaiden wasn't stressed, that being said the previous generation 3l diesel Toyotas made less torque and are heavier the a falcon. I know first hand that the suspension is better for down weight on the sr5, but if you are driving a heavy barge with a load on the back, slowing down for obstacles in something that's got commercial brakes, its done better in something more nimble and shorter makes the drive a lot easier. Dont even start me on trying to reverse a 7m trailer up a 55m driveway behind a 6m sr5

Yeah the little 2 litre struggles pulling some weight, a mates amarok he thought was the bees knees and they are a nice car but it and a px1 wildtrack both with matching poptop caravans and the ranger left it behind on hills, even putting a lift and 32 inch thres it lost 2 L/100

Why is there such a disparity between the Ranger and BT50, when the DMax and Colorado can set identical times?

Well, sort of. As a matter of fact I pick up my new Amarok next Friday. Could not justify the price of the Ranger (cue comments telling me what I should/should not have bought).

I've driven a Rok with 680nM of torque and it was mental. Similarly I've driven several Rangers and BT's that have been tuned and they're good fun too, my last Ranger (1st gen) was tuned and it was great. So while they might not be geared towards this sort of thing, dual cab 4WD's can actually be woken up and made to be a lot fun - and still be practical.
