Default Ford's New Luxury Car Seats Adjust To Your Individual Bum Cheeks

Could do with one of these in the lounge!
Quote:

Leather interiors and copious legroom used to be the hallmarks of a luxury sedan. But Ford is about to completely redefine what luxury means when it introduces a 30-way adjustable power seats that even lets drivers ensure that both of their bum cheeks are comfortable, even if they both require individual settings.

Link to video: https://youtu.be/_AEE2_An2Mk

Originally revealed as part of a concept vehicle at the 2015 New York Auto Show earlier this year, the over-accommodating seats are apparently well on their way to production for an updated version of the Lincoln Continental, which is Ford’s luxury brand. And while 30 different ways to adjust your seat sounds like wonderful overkill, the new power seats can actually help make long drives feel slightly more comfortable.

You may not realise it, but while you’re driving your legs are actually doing two different things. The right leg is taking care of acceleration and braking (most of the time) while your left leg is stretched out, tucked back, or generally just relaxing. So being able to adjust your seat to accommodate the position of each individual leg, and the bum cheek they’re connected to, actually makes a lot of sense.

The new seats should also provide some relief for those who like to keep a Costanza-sized wallet in their back pocket. Or those who are genuinely feeling discomfort because of pre-existing pain on one side of their bodies. And over-accommodating everyone in a vehicle is far from a new idea. Individual climate control options have existed for years — because when everyone in a car is comfortable, that five hour drive to grandma’s feels slightly gruelling.

It will need some attractions to sell. I'd swap those seats for a RWD platform, and not a bloody ancient Taurus platform from the 90's

But I reckon a person could spend hours trying to get the right setting. Sometimes when you have so many choices you just can't leave the thing alone trying to get it spot on.

They look stunning....I'd have them in a heart beat. But imho that's way too far for any mainstream car. The weight, tech, elictrical gremlin possibilities in cheaper cars, amoung other things just doesn't add up. Not in any car any time soon at least.
Only for the elite top of the range cruisers I'd say!
Impressive tho.

The image wasn't working when I first looked at this but now I can see that it's simply the movable thigh (not bottom) support at the leading edge of the squab that some luxury car models have, but split onto two.

Fair enough, but from my Ford experience they would have been better to provide a footrest for your left foot rather than leaving your foot dangling in space at an odd angle. The ergonomics of the seating position are not something that Ford excels in.

I may be wrong but from memory isn't the Aussie falcon the only ford car people have had big seating issues with?

This seat looks rather erotic.

if they want to get fancy, why don,t they have an automatic vacuum system in the seat for when you drop your guts!

I had some problems with the Territory (including thigh support and lack of footrest) but different people have different needs.

What really puzzles me nowadays are why many seats are designed without lumbar support which then has to be added as yet another bit of electronics, usually at an extra price.

better tyet, pump that methane back into the engine as renewable fuel. Just as long as there is a filtering system for desperate times.

I drove a Volvo F12 in the mid 90's with a pretty funky air adjustable seat.
don't think it went sideways though
