Default Buying an unlicensed car (WA)

Just wondering, when buying an unregistered car (in WA), do you still need to fill in owner transfer papers?
The car I'm looking at has been unregistered for some time and has no licence plates.
What paperwork would be required in this situation please?
Cheers.

Check the VIN with REVs/whatever it is called now for encumbrances or if it is stolen or written off.

The statutory declaration is particularly important as transport/licensing will put you through a 2 week wait when you go to register if you don't have it...have been there and was fortunate to be able to find the seller and get him to sign one 7 years after a sale when a car was finished and ready to register. This was situation just over a year ago so expect it is still the situation. Ensure all ID marks (chassis/VIN and engine numbers) included.

REVS certificate important too as if the vehicle (and engine) numbers are clear you are protected from repossession for finance or theft by govt guarantee (well at least you were...worth checking that last point is still valid).

It's only a problem when re-registering it.

I've always just gotten by with a receipt....just a scrap paper with the VIN on it and the sellers details.

neither buyer or seller need a drivers licence for a sale of an unregistered car.

No stamp duty payable either unless re-registering.

make sure your receipt states sellers full name and address and date of sale plus sale price plus all vehicle details: make model, VIN, engine #
