Ok, this is getting a bit emotional.
I have edited a few posts but most of it was reactive so thats as far as that goes.
Please lets keep this on topic and not personal or it will end in tears.

Unrealistic analogies just don't help.

I'll repeat. We are not governed by a totalitarian regime.
The laws are drawn up by representatives of the people (the public servants). Campbell Newman was elected overwhelmingly by the people of Qld. Ergo he has a mandate to do his job.

It is obvious that this situation is serious enough for a government to introduce a law about it (as was seat belts in the 70's).

People on here think it is the end of civilization and we are going to taken over by Kim Il Jun.

Yes, but the Germans never had a chance to vote him out. Remember the night of the long knives?

If you don't like the public servant, vote them out.

Unlike the people of Nth Korea, Australians have that freedom.

The argument is that the current laws were adequate. But rewriting it so that the law states that if I rev a car in my driveway on two separate occasions my car can be forfeited are draconian - not too different from what I posted. I agree that what I posted was unrealistic - but so elements of this law be considered the same.

Saying that the police will not follow through with enforcing it in certain scenarios does not give me any comfort. It is tabloid lawmaking.

I dont think anyone here is saying if you legitimately run from the Police that this should not be classed as a level 1 offence, but there are other penalties in place for that.

Which scientific or government authority has declared this is so?
Or is it just the minority who frequent car enthusiast forums that have declared that existing laws are perfect and that anything new is draconian.

It doesn't matter how heated everyone gets on these forums, it is the LAW.

Name me another law where something as small as reving a car twice can legally result in an $80000 asset being seized.

Do this and I will award you the thread.

I don't think you have that authority.

How about this scenario.
Revving a car, spinning the wheels, going out of control and killing spectators at an illegal street meet. Hooning with people in the tray of a ute and killing someone.

You could lose a lot more than your precious $80,000 ride (that will be worth $40,000 in 2 years).

These are not analogies, they have happened.

Go away troll, preaching to the wrong people.

I have broken the law, and paid the price. Have i done it since, yes i have, did it today on the way to work and on the way home for that matter.

Thing is its the officers discretion/knowledge that worries me. Everyone has a bad day and thats all it takes for said officer to apply something that isnt warranted.
Put simple using officers discretion. We as car enthusiasts are easy targets and they use these laws to be seen as doing something in the eye of the public.

Even though the Qld legislation is specific to cars, it lays the foundation for such laws to be enacted with a far bigger scope in the very near future. And because apathy is rampant, the pollies get away with it, the public by and large swallows the govco tripe that law XYZ is there to protect them and the march goes on.

I think we can get the authority - hit "like" on this post if we all agree to award the thread to Eldubayu if he can give us an example to the exact scenario in post 71

And there you have the type that screams the loudest.

And funny that people are 'trolls' when they disagree with you.

Life, even on a Ford Forum is not just a hug fest.
