During the 70's, it became quite common for larger dealers to release their own versions of factory cars. The most famous of these were the Mcleod Ford horn cars, with stripe work inspired by the Goss XA coupe...
Peter Warren ford also had some distinctive interiors fitted to some cars, and one dealer was responsible for a few Cortina Cobras... But, do these creations add value? Say, a genuine GT, with a dealer fitted interior. Would this bring down the value as its not a genuine matching numbers car, or would the semi-official offering add value due to the rarity of the option? Is this something that should happen more regularly today? I know suttons Holden are to blame for a heap of pov-pack commodores with big kits and tire packages... The local Hyundai dealer did "razor" packs on things like i30's, with decals, special interior trim and wheels...

I always think it is better to re stimulate demand for an older car through offering more for the same price rather than discounting the price
I think other manufacturers do a better job of that than Ford. Discounting near the end of the model life damages the resale for the early adopters way too much. These are the most supportive buyers and the ones that you need to look after the most. I think manufactureres that realise this enjoy some of the best brand loyalty because they don't stooge the best customers on resale by discounting too much The old cliche saying of you lose X% as soon as you drive it off the lot is only really applicable to the heavy discounting brands. How often do you have used or demo Fords, Holdens and Mitsubishis at higher marked prices than run out brand new stock Maybe the dealers could do this if the manufaturer doesn't |
