Default Oil Filters - your choice?

Hi all, coming up time to do oil and filter change on my LV, and while I have the oil already sussed, whats the general preference towards the actual oil filter?. Do you stick with the Ford OE brand, go Ryco, or have any other brand preference here?. I was looking at a K&N oil filter on ebay for around the $25 mark, and they have a good reputation as air-filters, though havent really heard much as oil filters. What do you all do in the regards? Thanks all

Using Royal Purple - 5W30 - after reading the technical report/results of tests in the technical room of synthethic oils on this forum, Royal Purple seemed to trump many of the more highly regarded brands. Was $100 for 5L, so similar price to the others too.

Cripes thats expensive stuff
I paid $47 for 5w 30w Castrol Edge full synthetic
It'd be interesting to see if in some way it was twice as good.

Yep...agree!...super expensive, though always remember what my dad told me once...."oil is your cheapest mechanic"...so I hope that the premuim will be repaid somehow..either in fuel economy, longevity...

have you read this article in another part on this forum?...I found it very interesting and made me rethink some ideas of oils.

I'm using Mobil 1 5W-30 fully synth, which is usually $80-90, but trying and pick it up when its on special. I've always read and heard good things about Mobil 1, until I read that article you mentioned a few months ago. Needless to say, I was just as shocked as the authors were about the very average Mobil 1 results.

As for filters, I use the OEM Motorcraft AFL4.

Where abouts do you get the royal purple oil from?

Ryco are superior to most filters you keep your warranty from all australian dealers by your certified mechanic shop using ryco instead of factory issue filters

When I was working at a Honda dealership, everyone hated Ryco and every time we had a car come in with an oil leak, we found a Ryco oil filter, but that was within a short amount of time, could have been a dodgy batch?

I use OEM Ford stuff on my two cars, Dad's gets Ryco, and I havent had an issue with them.

Hi EF, would you know what is the motorcraft oil filter part no. of the new LW 1.6 Focus Ambiente ? Would it be the same as the LV 1.8 filter ? I can order from the U.S. but I think their Focus is only 2.0 engine.

It should be the same as the WT 1.6 petrol as its the same egine, just did an oil and filter change myself today at 3,000ks.

The oil filter number is BM5G6714AA, as I said should be the same as they are both sigma engines.

This is what I use in my LV TDCI, and a genuine oil filter.
