Default Instrument cluster LCD backlight

I have just realised half of the backlight for my LCD display in the instrument cluster on my AU2 XR8 is not working. Is this repairable and if so how do you go about it ? Thanks

It is repairable, its just one of light bulbs has blown.

Ok im not sure if theres a guide on here for it, so ill try to explain.

On your instrument cluster there are 2 screwhole covers just on the top, remove them to expose the screws, take the screws out.

This will allow you to slide the cluster out (all of this will be easier if you tilt your steering wheel down to its lowest point)

There will be several wiring plugs that you can simply unplug, then behind the cluster youll notice all these "dial" looking things that are the housings for the bulbs.

For the odometer display there are 2 bulbs, they will be physically directly behind where your odo display is, undo the one thats not working (from memory you should be able to do this by hand)

There is an aftermarket NARVA part number for this, i cant remember it, but repco have them for only a few bucks.

Aside from what I said about lowering your steering wheel, getting a flat head screwdriver to help lever it out will help. Just be gentle.

There "may" be some clips holding it in i cant quite remember, just use the screwdriver to locate them to help pop it out.

shoot down to u-pull-it there will be some AU's there and suss out the clips and screws that hold it all in/on.
im pretty sure there are some guides in the technical link up the top of the page, look for the AU link.
here is one that may help you from there

another thing to do to it while you have it out is a Led coloured light conversion
there are heaps of different coloured ones available on ebay too.
repco have a plug and play narva one available, for about $3ea
autobarn sell them also
i changed my EF and EL to spark blue, looks a lot better imo
cheers, craig

Smile Re: Instrument cluster LCD backlight

Thanks for all the info guys . After about 6 attempts (having to calm myself down between each one) i finally got got the cluster out. I had to feed wire through the mounting bracket holes and also used a suction cup on the plastic face and pulled.Out it came.
I sourced the globes as mentioned from repco $2 each they are slightly different and are quite a tight fit but do the job. Thanks again.
