After posting in this thread I got curious. Does anyone know in what year and what car knocked the RS200 off the 0-60mph record? Apparently it stood for 12 years so it cant of been too long ago.

I still think I've got a great poster of the RS200 at my oldies place. Didn't they ban them after one took off and hit a tree sideways?

For a standard production car, the fastest road-tested acceleration reported at the time occurred in 1993, when a Ford RS200 Evolution went from zero to 26.8 m/s (60 mph) in 3.275 seconds. Two separate RS200s have both reported 0–100 km/h times of 2.1 seconds.[citation needed] |

I'm honestly surprised that kit cars of these things aren't more common...the RS200 still looks modern today, and with modern engines (even standard turbo four cylinders from a variety of cars) the thing would still be an absolute ball-tearer!

The Ariel Atom 500 does it in 2.3 seconds
Bugatti Veyron SuperSport does it in 2.5 seconds McLaren F1 roadcar does it in 3.2 seconds. Although it was recorded that a modified RS200 did the 0-60mph in 2.1 seconds (I read it somewhere ... let me find it.)

But how well does a $10K motorbike go on gravel ... nowhere near as quick or controlled as the RS200 is.

My GSX1400 is a handful on gravel...dirt is OK. My old '74 Kawasaki 750cc two-stroke triple had the nickname "The Widowmaker" back in the seventies, and that was on bitumen. The damn thing is downright lethal on dirt, and the one time I rode on a gravel road was an "interesting" experience... |

You're right- I seem to remember that there were two separate owners who claimed this but both were unsubstantiated......maybe the time keeper was driving a Ferrari and couldn't keep up

What's a rs200? Awesome.
As with everything Ford and Cosworth knocked out. I love the pursuit spec issue, still tough to decide. RS200 or RS500?

LOL RS200 = GOD among cars. Was lucky enough to see these as a kid in rally and rallycross events. Rallycross is about 12 cars on dirts track (not oval) unrestricted with 650+ Hp Insane things just about getting air coming out of bends. Group B got banned when Lancia car killed driver and spectators.

RS200 Evolution prepped for rallycross. Plus some other clips. Rallycross tracks are part tarmac part dirt. Rallycross is where rally cars go to die after they are developed to their full potential. The sport is still populair now. With decomission rally cars being used such as WRC Focus Etc. In some of the clips you will see Peugeot 205 in Group B they had 450Hp in Rallycross 650-700Hp. This is what motorsport was in Europe when Aussies were watching XD's and VH C'dore To bad rally had become what it
has <300Hp Enjoy.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCic-GhbIL8&NR=1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87N6m...eature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnhHF...feature=fvwrel

A couple of photo's I dug up from the '03 Sydney Motor Show. Shannon's were displaying this race prepped version though I can't remember any details about it. Unfortunately the pics were taken with a 3mp point and shoot.
Quad shock rear end. Got lights? That's not a redline, this is a red line! |

Phenomenal cars, always loved them - the Cosworths hold a special place in my hearts garage.
Also here's a good example of the Rally Cross http://speedhunters.com/archive/2011...dden-hill.aspx
