I've been finding more and more that people (mainly the old fuddy duddy generation) are using the term "oxymoron" instead "dipshit" when talking on forums etc. To me this is a true dipshit and I do find it irritating... what happened to terms like idiot and ********tard or to a lesser extent shannon noll, all are clearly defined in it's description in words and on the forum (not in public of course) i would like to see the term flaming mongrel use and made famous by the great Alf. or am I just just a young whipper snapper that needs to get with the times :

I love this thread. Thank you! When I was working at the mags the old schoolers (I was a part of them) and the younger kids had a massive argument about this. Saying it's a skid just seems ridiculous! Complete contradiction in terms. I agree.

to me... a burnout is a skid but with more effort and smoke..

As far as i'm aware a skid has always been locking up the brakes.

I find its people who don't really know much about cars that call burnouts 'skids' or 'wheelies'.

Although the term skid can be used in some scenarios for comedic effect, ie a workmate of mine in trying to find the button to turn off TC/ESC/BS in a work car asked the question 'how do you turn the skids on?!?' which was rather funny at the time.

When u drop it in a fully done up SSS the tyres try so hard to spin they squeak and squeal which would fit the description of a skid.

I like to use the words fry (fried), destroy (destroyed) , shred (shredded) . I like these words because it sound like the tire's life is coming or has come to an end.

The first time I ever heard this was from a kid about 6-7 asking his big brother to 'do a skid'.
I guess that's where the intellect level stopped for this new breed. The ones that really dont know squat about cars other than to fit neons, blue lights and stickers pertaining that their car is some sort of god.

No idea why but it gets to me. To me a 'wheelie' has always been lifting the front wheels up on a pushbike bike or motorbike.

I agree with most on here too, a skid is what happens when the wheels lock, not spin.

Linguistically speaking, the term "power burnout" is probably closer to being an oxymoron than the term "skid", or "burnout"
