I can't find out much on google.
The mk1 is the 1st type that came with a 1.3L & 1.6L motor. so in aussie you could get a 2.0L motor MK 1 RS2000. they must be bugger all of them made. I have found that 2400 MK 2 RS2000's were made from 1976 to 1980 in aus. And there were 2 door & 4 door RS2000. i have only seen 2 door ones with the 4 head light front end. My wife is saying hers was a 4 door RS2000. but it had a 2 head light front end. i am going to have look at them old photo's. from what i can remember it may of had only RS on the guard and a black rubber rear wing & sports steel wheels. my guess is these RS2000 must of been made before the rubber 4 head light front end one's that i have always thought off as being a RS2000. |

There was the 2L rally pack Mk2 escort in two and four doors . They had the flat front.
However, outside Australia, the RS2000 was the only escort to score the 2L pinto. In 76 - Ford brought in a limited batch (25ish IIRC) RS2000's. These are more sought after than the ones produced in 1979/80. Also, Australia was the only place producing the 4 door RS2000. |

german & sme UK RS2000's came with twin downdrafts carbies it was an option, you could get a RS2000 in 75-76 in germany that didnt have the rubber front (that was what we used to enter our rally cars as - German RS2000's). They also had split exhaust manifolds, they produced something in the order of 10-15 bhp over standard pintos if my memory serves me correctly

So it looks like the 1976-7 got the GPR plastic nose. then from 1978 the RS2000 just got the flat front with steel wheels.
From what i can work out the MK 1 RS got a 1.6L twin cam. but in AUS ? |

There were 25 "german" Mk 2 RS2000s with the "droop snoop" front imported in 1976. Most of these were raced. In 1979 Ford produced about 2400 Rs2000s in both 2 and 4 dr versions however they were missing many of the original european options such as rear tramp bars, alloy engine mounts, bellhousing, RS struts etc.
I've own 3 2drs and a 4dr daily driver which I had for 7 years. Top car, but now I have a flat front Mk 2 Escort with a zetec. |
