been a bit of a fizzer here so far.

bit of a breeze russelling the trees, and a whole 2mm of rain so far.

just got back from Agnes waters/1770 and they have less wind and about 20mm of rain.

looking at the weather radar its going to have to make a quick turn to hit us now.

I reckon they should be mandatory in cyclone areas. The previous owners were elderly, so I assume they didn't want to stuff about taping windows etc. Just stick the boards up, and the jobs right.

They are already talking evacs on the northern sunny coast tonight. I think the next 24 hours are critical as to what happens. This is the first time in 60yrs a cyclone of this power has come so far south

Yes to be a category 3 so close to Brisbane shows that conditions must be strong there. I wouldnt want to be close to brissy should a 3 hit

It's currently starting to gnaw at the tip of Fraser Island and if it moves more sth than east then damage can occur.

BOM has even said it may even re-form after dissipating tomorrow and move north again later in the week

I think T.C. Hamish is just checking things out... all the way down, and then, all the way back up.... just looking for the bestplace to cross the coast.

Personally, i wouldnt mind it hitting here in Brisbane.... coz it will fill up our dams!!!! But i hope it comes across as a tropical rain depression, and not a formed cyclone still!

I just hope its not raining end of month, ive gotta build a retaining wall!!!!

I think Bne will be very unlikely to get a hit from hamish, but we will more then likely get abit of rain and wind

The Cyclone WATCH from Yeppoon to Tewantin has been cancelled.
The Cyclone WARNING for northern parts of Fraser Island has been cancelled.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Hamish, a CATEGORY 3 CYCLONE, is located off Fraser
Island and at 10:00 am EST was estimated to be 365 kilometres east of Gladstone
and 165 kilometres east northeast of Sandy Cape, moving southeast at 11
kilometres per hour.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Hamish is expected to slow down and gradually weaken.

A separate Severe Weather Warning has been issued for Damaging Winds, Abnormally
High Tides and Dangerous Surf for coastal and island communities between Sandy
Cape and Coolangatta. People living in areas likely to be affected by these
conditions should take measures to protect their property as much as possible
and be prepared to help their neighbours.

Details of Severe Tropical Cyclone Hamish at 10:00 am EST:
.Centre located near...... 24.2 degrees South 154.8 degrees East
.Location accuracy........ within 19 kilometres
.Recent movement.......... towards the southeast at 11 kilometres per hour
.Wind gusts near centre... 220 kilometres per hour
.Severity category........ 3
.Central pressure......... 965 hectoPascals

No further Advices will be issued for this system unless it moves back towards
the coast. Tropical Cyclone Information Bulletins will be issued from 2pm.

This warning is also available through TV and Radio Broadcasts; the Bureau's
website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 212. The Bureau and the State
Emergency Service would appreciate this warning being broadcast regularly.

Starting to look like a fizzer, but you never know with these things......

wow... what a non event that turned out to be.

a couple of cloudy days and a bit of gusty breeze is all the strongest storm in qld history could come up with. ohh, and 2mm of rain.

Maybe next time they shouldn't warn you about it so it's not so much of an anti climax. Bit hard to predict what they are going to do, but at least they try.

: ahhh. wasnt having a go at anyone. i know its pretty difficult to predict what a cyclone will do .

was just making a light hearted coment . after everyone watching it move all the way down the coast waiting and prepairing for it to come inland and tear things apart it seems to have headed off to sea and has nearly faded away.

We had to spend Saturday putting our clinker kiln back together again, just after the first week of our yearly shutdown.
If the rain had of got into the bricks and refractory, it would have been all over for us, let alone what the wind would have done.
Most of the bricks and refractory can't handle getting wet, as it will disintergrate when heated up.
Now we have work carefully while opening the place back up, and to wait and see what this cyclone will do, if it comes back again.......
Never say never with a cyclone.

after poor decisions where made on the Cyclone advice of two weather forcasting bureaus, The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) and Offshore Weather Services (OWS), who both got it wrong with Cyclone Billy in WA/NT.

Cyclone prediction is far from being an exact science.
