HI
just brought me a esky. 1980 Ghia MK2 1600. Im looking at puting a Ford Sierra I4 DOHC Eninge and a MT-75 5 speed manual transmission in it. Has anyone got any info or anything useful like mounting gearbox and engine and widing the tunnel etc.  |

is the 1600 manual or auto? if its auto the tunnel u might be able 2 get away with

hope you have a good budget for it mate because tough's this cost a S%!t load but if you do good luck but yeah you will need an auto escort to pull it of without modifying the floor and it would probably be cheaper to put a Zetec in it
but other than that nice eskie she looks like shes in good nick |

its a manual 4speed 1600. I am looking at buying a larger gearbox tunnel, drive shaft tunnel and diff tunnel all in one that welds straight in as i thought there wouldnt be much room. Only $295 NZD from www.palmside.co.nz.

First of all, Your car looks sweet.
The I4 is a good engine, I had one in the UK in a Sierra and it had 140bhp and did 250k with no trouble, but it is heavier than a zetec, has very few tuning parts available and is pretty rare in Oz i would think. The MT75 box is way better than a Type 9 but you will definitely need to enlarge the tunnel. I believe the engine will fit where a Pinto fits so you should have no trouble there. But really, as posters above have said, a Zetec is lighter, more powerful, probably cheaper and has heaps of tuning bits available so why go with the I4? All the best. |

Only reason i am going with I4 engine is i got a sierra with one in it for $100. didnt really look into any other engines before i started. i have the engine out of the sierra now. will be a tight fit getting it in the escort tho. |
