i HAD the 1600 kent engine with inertia starter motor, the starter lead is just one thick wire, now i have the 2 litre pinto, with pre engaged starter, how do i wire it up? and can i still use the single lead?

That big wire goes to the solanoid nut. the other small terminal is ignition start up from ignition switch and the other is 12v boost to coil on start up.you should read the gregorys workshop manual. it is very helpfull when it comes to wiring

if you have a test light just find the wire down at starter area and hit the ignition start up and see what wire lights it up... dont worry about the other coil wire just yet. its only really needed on cold winter start ups.. i only have 75 mk2 1.3 to 1.6 workshop manual. your nearest library should have one..
