Default Which is harder to work on the 6 or the 8?

So what do you think is the easier of the E series to work on the 6 or the 8?

I have both and find that once you take the BBQ plate engine cover off the V8 most things are accessible and things like the starter motor can be got at from under the car. There is also much more room at the front to access and it is easier to remove the engine from the car. Yes, after you find the way you can change the leads, coil dizzie etc in the 6 quickly but the first time around it takes some time and some skinned knuckles and the starter is just a pain. And most things on the 6 seem to made hard to get at or work on (eg replacing sump and timing cover gaskets are real fun jobs).

So what's your view?

LOL im gonna say the 6 even though i havent see the inside of an 8 but after being under the car all arvo trying to get at the starter motor and trying to check the coil the 6 is my nemisis, refer to the above mention post if you dont understand why i was under it.lol

I vote 8. The word shoehorn comes to mind...
I bought my EB 6 for its simplicity, besides, the clevosaurus fills my V8 needs...

Shoehorn??? Maybe it is different with the V8 Fairlanes - I could hold a party in the space between the radiator and the fan and have a whole football team roll up for a party between the engine and the grill (particularly now I have thermo fans).

I havent really paid attention to the E-series luxo barges, But i know there was SFA room in my EB XR8.

If its your EB your talking about i'll take your $50 . It would be exactly the same as our ED and they are easy enough.

6. I assume the focus in design was making more money for servicing. The coil and starter are just stupid, every damn hose and pipe all tucked under that stupid manifold, and that stupid bar and the sump.

6 of 1, half a dozen of the other. if its changing cams the 6 is easier and cheaper by a fair margin. changing heads, the fact that the 8 has the cam in the block makes that easier than the 6.

general maintenance i reckon the 8 is easier but its splitting hairs.

Yes challenging I admit but it's not a standard V8 is it.

Still I have small tool box filled with various plug wrenches and the like and I won a similar bet about 30 years ago years ago by changing the plugs on a highly modded tightly packed Pantera V8 without moving the engine. But I have to admit the arthritis in the hands has devloped over the last 20 years and I would find it much harder now (perhaps the increased cunning that comes with aging might compensate though).

i got both and i wouldnt say ones harder that the other
i just enjoy working on the 8 more and get more enjoyment and sadisfaction from it as well when its running good

oh and i didnt vote

I reckon the 6 is harder to work on, but only because no matter how much time you spend on it, it will never be an 8!

did a distributor and a water pump with my mate on his el , factory bullbar fitted with lpg, not much joy either job ....back braking, 6 gets my vote.
