As the subject line says. Where is the coolant level sensor on my AUII barge.
I thought it was supposed to be on the header (supply?) tank but there's nothing there.

from memory there should be a like a bottle opening on the side of the coolant tank, if it has coolant sensor it will have the bits inside here if not then it doesn't have one. Mine had a fault come up where the ecu thought it had one when it didn't it was a false reading because nothing was there.

Thats what I thought, and where it was on my last 'lane.
This one has the round plug/bottle opening shape but, not sensor or wires are anywhere on the actual tank!!

Should have one on the side of the header tank.
Somebody must have put a new tank in without the sensor as they are a lot cheaper without the sensor. I wonder why the low coolant light is not showing and the car is not beeping at you?? Have a look for the plug that plugs into the sensor ( when it is there ), they may have shorted out the connection to stop it. Here is a link to one on e-bay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-AU-HEADE...QQcmdZViewItem You can buy the sensor seperate from Bayford for around $45 but I am not sure if you can just drill out the hole of the Header tank you have now. |

the AU 6 has no coolant sensor from series 2 on as it just starts shuting cylinders down to prevent overheating. the cluster does not even have the function enabled only th V8 has the level sensor

Oh good, thanks au3xr6. I was starting to think it might have been me having an Alzheimer's moment.
I'd still prefer a coolant level sensor though, it'd be much easier to tell if a hose has gone instead of thinking the cars running a bit rough!

The sensor doesn't cost $100.00 part Number is EA10K888A, more like about 40.00

IIRC a 220 ohm resistor will do the trick

I can see from your massive 10 posts you know it all. from series 2 on there is no sensor on any 6Cyl Falcons that includes LWB variants The series one had the sensor with the eception of the Povo pack (forte) the sensor was deemed redundant due to the cylinder shutdown feature as it was designed to prevent you cooking the engine. so " get with the game aren't you a ford person"

You are right though, no sensor on AU from series two except for V8.

The fail safe cooling method that you describe of cylinders shutting down was present on all models regardless of series, it was not implemented to cut out the sensor. Rog yours being a Fairlane I thought it would have had one, its not hard to put one in, you just need the sensor and a new header tank.

so if you have the sensor it must be a warning light only?
