3. No handbrake!!
you can just adjust the handbrake shoes on the rear rotors

4. Very rough idle
check airbox, ISC valve, clean throttle body, spark plugs, O2 sensor

5 Wobble sort of noise when driving, which becomes worse when turning right
check tyres, get alignment or rotate the tyres

7. Crazy shakes when hittin 120kmph
rotors are warped...get new ones....or DONT SPEED!! :P

8. Hard to put in 1st and reverse
check gearbox fluid, clutch and clutch cable, etc or if auto i got no idea

9. Also leaking near steering column on my leg!!!
mines is doing this too but its insurances problem ill let you know how they fix this

id say just bring it to a mechanic and get it sorted one time, or hit a tree and claim insurance

Probs 8 and 9 are related.

You probably have a cracked firewall, hence the water leaking in by the steering column, This in turn leads to clutch problems and gearshift probs.
I just had mine welded up, with reinforced plates to stop it from happening again.
Careful may lead to other more serious problems soon.
Quotes to weld up range from $300 to $900 depending on the severity of the crack.

In regards to the firewall and pedal box, if you have basic mechanical knowledge and good welding knowledge you can do it yourself

Well 2, 5 and 7 could be related to a bad wheel bearing (perhaps on the right hand side?) which you could check by jacking the front wheels off and rocking the top and bottom of the wheels - there should be minimal to no play... but I will say you seem to have very little mechanical knowledge whatsoever so booking it into the mechanic is a GREAT idea !!! A list of problems like that take time to develop and should have been tended to earlier IMAO

Keep ya chin up mate, just go down your list and tick em off as you go. Can be frustrating I know, but once they are fixed they should be right for a long time. Just like the rest of us, you learn as you go. Just by staying on the forums you will be surprised at how much your knowlege will improve just by asking questions and reading heaps of threads. -craig

Got the car back from the mechancis this was the problems

1. Grind noise when taking off at low revs around 700-1000 rpm- Some bearing needs replacing. Was told not to worry bout it, if you take the box out might as well give it a rebuid while its out!
2. Alot of "play" in steering- Steering rack problem
3. No handbrake!! - Tightened
4. Very rough idle - Fuel filter change, could do with injector service
5 Wobble sort of noise when driving, which becomes worse when turning right- Left rear wheel bearing
7. Crazy shakes when hittin 120kmph- Needed wheel balance BADLY
8. Hard to put in 1st and reverse- Changed oil, also to do with no.1
9. Also leaking near steering column on my leg!!! - Still unsure

How rough is the idle? AU V8's have a rough idle when they get some k's up as the valve guides wear, my T2 idles like it has a lumpy cam but it just worn guides.

How many kms has your XR8 done mrauxr8?

I find it hard to select reverse sometimes, (dont know if its just 'me') but no dramas with 1st.

its done bout 130000k's

Its not a REAL rough idle, just enough to annoy you when sitting at a set of lights etc. ive changed fuel filter spark plugs etc. But still the same, so might be valves as u suggested. Might look into it.

You could just have a dirty throttle body which will make it idle rough... have you had the battery out for a period of time lately by any chance???

No idea then. My Ser 3 Xr8 idles a little rough but nothin serious. Its done just on 200,000 k's

Edit: Some times if you clean the throttle body your computer will still think its dirty and wont compinsate for the extra air coming in. So maybe reset the computer. There is a way to do it but i dont know it. Taking the battery out will reset it if you leave it out for more then 40 min i think. Can anyone else confirm this
