My car is going in for a set of pacemakers on thursday. couldnt afford the competition ones. just got the other type. Has anyone here got them done and does it make much better performance and sound better?

Yes, I have them - the 4499s. Definitely makes a difference performance wise, but not sound wise. Mufflers are what dictate sound, not extractors. Extractors just get the exhaust gasses out faster/better.

Extractors should also deepen the exhaust note due to the longer primaries giving a lower-frequency harmonic. My car at idle sounds almost like a V8. :

I have 4499's... Down low is stronger than before... Not much difference in the top end... But for me, that's all that matter, I don't race it! :P
Noise is definitely deeper, maybe a little louder.... |

Have now got problems sorted & it goes OK, though I got a noticeable performance boost from washing & re-oiling the K&N filter panel a week or so ago!!! Have left the vernier cam gear 1&1/2 deg advanced and it's strongest between 1500 and 3500 revs - where it spends most of its time.

I have them, and though they made a bit of a difference, it really wasn't much. Car definitely sounds different though, and in my opinion it sounds worse than when I just had the catback.

I've had an 8 and I've got a 6 with a pretty decent exhaust system on it. No contest, it sounds nothing like the V8, never will. Quicker than the V8 I had yes, more fun yes but the V8 sound is sooooooooooooo much better.

I own a V8 (headers, twin 2.5" system) and the I6 (headers, single 2.5" system) and there is a huge difference.

I never said at full rev's it sounds like a V8. When it is idling it is definatley deeper sounding exhaust once it has warmed up.
Yes I know it will never sound like a V8 and thankyou to the experts for pointing that out : |

You obviously have the green EL that was at the FordMods dyno day, I think owner's name it Jason?... No one that didn't know the car could believe their eyes when he popped the bonnet and it was a 6... Had pretty major work done though.... Maybe I was imagining it, but when I picked my car up after getting the the pacies on, I had to get used to driving the car again, the wheels seem to spin that much easier... Like I said though, maybe i'm just going nuts... |

I've had alot of people ask me if my car is a V8. It seems if its got a deep not and is louder then stock, some people assume it must be. But everyone that has asked me this, on a reply of no the next question is "oh, is it a v6?". I't sounds great, but nothing like a V8

A 2.5" cats back redback system, certainly unleashed a bit of the available power, and more recently, upgrading to a brand new 2.5" high flow magnaglow cat has meant there are now no restrictions in my system, and just the right note.

yeh i get my extracters put on tomorrow. I have a 2 1/2inch catback system on already with standard cut and standard extracters. i sorta blew the guts out my cut so i just opened it and ripped everything out so now its a straight threw cat. tomorrow the guy is putting my pacemakes on and modifying the flange on the cat from 2 1/4 inch to 2 1/2. hopefully this adds a bit more power and helps my exhausts potential abit because when i put that on i noticed no difference

Or the old crossflow 6 with twin 3>1 split headers and twin 2.5in exhaust.. under 3000rpm. Would almost put your mortage on beting they were 8's : Mufflers do control noise levels, yes I agree, but extractors DO change the note and CAN sometimes make it a little louder. They flow alot more than stock exhaust manifolds, more gases coming out at a higher velocity, different shape, length all changes the note and loudness. |

I had a two door hemi pacer that would rev till doomsday and sounded very european burbly and throaty like a M3 and a old XW 221 with extractors and a full twin system with just a rear balance pipe that actually sounded better than most V8's today do. the genIII IV odd firing V8's I mean not the windsor. Now I white hair, prostate problems and an AURION! it's very quiet : ( Wife and kids love it. : ( Neigbours even told me they like it. : ( |
