hey guys,
i finally managed to get my hands on an explorer upper manifold form a friend of a friend of a friends...lol...i only have the upper bit and no Throttlebody though. Because of this am i able to bolt up my own throttlebody and run it like that until i can get an AU one to suit? Also im looking at putting it on myself and was wondring if anyone on here had done it themselves? if so is there any advice/tips you can offer? thanks guys. Juz. |

The E-series TB will bolt on and work fine. But you'll need the lower manifold.

Hi guys, slightly off topic, but will an AU explorer manifold be a direct fit/swap to an ed302? I have read somewhere that the EL XR8 ran the same explorer, but with the EGR setup??
Any info appriciated. Thanks. |

Au explorers dont have the bung in #5 intake runner for the air temp thing but you can still run them.

Is there any difference between the AU and E-series 'Explorers'? Is it worth sourcing a E-Series one over the AU? I have found an AU for $550 (upper and lower), but is it safe to just discard the EGR? Will i need to flash my computer to run one of these???

E-Series explorers allow for EGR and the ACT sensor in runner #5. It is worth sourcing an E-Series explorer (from an EL2XR8) over an AU one as long as the cost difference isn't too great. Discarding EGR won't cause any disasters, although I still run mine. If you discard it, make sure you run a blank spacer in its place between the upper intake and the t/b.
Explorers work fine without any tuning requirements. Mine does :P I've got a chip that's better suited for a HO-equipped E-Series and she goes pretty good regardless : Expect a slight change in engine note with a swap to Explorers, mine lost a bit of the revvy zing that it had with the HO and gained a bit of lowdown rumble. And expect a gain in performance too. Some people have had miracle gains with their manifold swaps, but to me it felt like getting a new exhaust system - again. In other words it feel a little better, and you can tell there's been a bit of an improvement, but you haven't suddenly doubled your power and halved your ET from the swap. |

Dammit! Not enough time to edit...
My EGR is actually blocked off and I was talking about the coolant line in the EGR spacer : |
