KC laser timing info help required

Just replaced a head gasket on my mrs 86 KC laser (1.6 auto)

Didnt turn the motor to TDC before i started (yes i know im an idiot) :togo:

Now before i slapped the head on a mate and i set the head up to what we thought was TDC. Cyl 1 valves were closed, and there were two lines on the cam gear one facing 12 oclock the other at 3 oclock.

Now we rotated the crank to the compression stroke, but didnt know where on the crank marking (on the block) to set the crank exactly...

Can anyone help with where the crank is TDC, or post a manual scan to show how to make sure its exact?

I know its close, but as they say 1 tooth off is all it takes....

There will be a notch on the crank timing gear and a pointer cast into the block at 12 o'clock. Line these up and you have TDC.
As far as getting the cam in the right place, line up the notch in the cam gear with the cast in pointer on the rocker cover at 12 o'clock. To make sure you are using the right notch, check that both No.1 rocker arms are on the back of the cam lobes.

Is there a way to use the notch on the belt pulley and the other marks that are cast into the block? Im reusing the old belt and didnt remove the belt pulley to make it simpler. I know its not the best, so was hoping on doing it this way...seeing as i cant see the crank timing gear with the pulley on.

Use the ignition timing marks on the v belt pulley to get TDC. Would be a lot better if you removed the whole timing cover.

Thanks mate, that helps a lot. Ive set the head up fine then.

Any idea where the mark on the v belt pulley should be set on the timing marks to set tdc? Its all lined up on them now, just dont know where its supposed to be set...theres a little bit of adjustment there so not sure where exactly is tdc.

TDC will be the first mark on the timing cover, to the left of all the others.

Not the crank timing gear mark, or the cam timing, the one on the v belt pulley...

That lines up with the timing marks on the plastic timing cover.
Would be a lot easier if you took the v belt pulley off, its only four 10mm bolts.... then you could use the marks on the crank gear.
