Default S1 Cluster Upgrade - Coming Soon!

Hi all,

I've got the cluster, oil pressure sender, the 27mm deep tube socket (thanks JC) and a stack of info, including a pic of the pin positions. I want to thank Falkeen (Adam) for an absolute stack of help with answering questions and LG for putting me onto him. Much appreciated all.

I had the Futura dash out tonight and quickly slipped the XR one in. As predicted, the Oil Gauge, Dash Illumination, ABS light upon startup and the Right side Indicator were all missing.

The dash has spots for 3 plugs, one on the right, two on the left, the upper one is missing from the low series loom.

Falkeen told me that he wired up 4 separate wires to those corresponding pins (that do the functions I mentioned above) on the top left spot on the cluster, then cut those matching wires out of the single plug and attached them up outside the normal plug arrangement. Then he plugged the right and left plugs in and voila! All systems go! He did mention heat shrinking the wires up to keep them separate. I don't yet know what shrink wrap is and how to do it, but I will soon. LOL!

I've got it pretty much sussed out in my mind, it did take some toing and froing with Falkeen via email, but I'll soon give it a go.

Of course I'll do a write up with pics, as is my usual custom.

Cheers,

GK

Thanks for moving the thread Casper!

Well the dash is in and even the oil gauge is working. Took a fair amount of angling with some extra bar extentions and a uni joint. But it's in.

The only problem though, the temp gauge doesn't work. Fuses all seem fine, I didn't think I knocked any wires off, I pulled the dash back out and reconnected the plugs to ensure a good click fit, still not working.

The low coolant light is in operation as it lights up at startup (S1's had the sender in the reservoir) and the little red thermometer lights up and disappears upon startup, but I have no idea why the temp gauge isn't working!

Any ideas where to start looking?

Maybe I shorted something in the pins. I think the tube of heat shrink went over both pin 1 and 2. I'll need to check the diagram, but I though pin 1 wasn't used for anything.

This is the info I consulted. I don't see any reason why the gauge shouldn't work. Pin 1 looks to not be used. I don't think the heat shrink did anything.

Can anyone else? What should I look for?

I wonder if the sender fried itself?

The temperature sender might be different in the low end models (not sure about this) but given the changes you've made I'd be double checking the wiring first. also just because pin 1 isn't used for any given function doesn't mean it's not routed to something in the circuit board which could cause you problems, I'd fix that issue and elliminate it from the equation first and then start looking for other issues. A continuity test on the temp sender circuit would be my first stop just to make sure you haven't accidently seperated a plug somewhere in the loom. The temperature sender provides a gradually reducing resistance to earth and they are pretty robust things so you've not likely fried it.
