Do people buying part's or even cars in australia that live overseas have to pay GST & LST.

I would say that if the seller, lives in Australia and has to remit GST then yes.

I think you can get a GST refund as you are leaving the country. That's how it works in most places.

Yep when I sold a Falcon overseas I claimed GST etc .. At the time it had to be done with in 6 months from purchase...

its like the stuff im gettin from the states if i go get it yes i gotta pay their taxes but i dont if they ship it to me and it works same in reverse if they pick it up even if their shippin it yes if we ship it to them no

If an Australian resident you must be registered for GST to claim it back, and also in order to register for GST you have have a current ABN

Thanks for the info everyone.

Iv'e bought heaps of gear from the states lately, i still find it odd that i have to pay GST over here for parts that i bought elsewhere even if seccond hand.

I have brought a bit from the states, and I don’t recall ever paying GST on any of it.

Custom's stop anything worth more than $1oooau including shipping, iv'e ordered 3 lot's of head unit's since chrismas and all have been stopped. I tried using a custom's broker for a set of brakes i bought and they slugged me gst and import duty as they weren't made in the usa.

Arr yes the over $1000 thing.

I have always kept my orders under a grand but have been told if you buy something that is over $1000 get it sent in to half’s

Like if you buy a set of heads pay for the heads in2 payments and get on head sent on Monday then the other head sent on Tuesday.

Don’t know apparently it works.
