Latest RS4 road test done by Motor:
(page 84 of the same mag that gives 13.5 for the Jeep)

RS4 0/100km/h - 5.3s
RS4 0/400m - 13.6s

Hosed is a figure of speach, as are spanked, smoked and whipped - all of which will be liberally used as the Jeep driver tells his mates at the pub that he beat an RS4, GT and M3 on his way to pick up the kids this afternoon.

Motor's times are crap at best. So are Wheels. All the Aussie mags seem to get sub-par performance times compared to their US and European bretheren.

http://www.supercars.net/cars/3114.html

0-60mph 4.4 seconds, 1/4 mile 12.8 seconds, 250km/h top speed.

I've already posted a link to a Road & Track with the SRT-8 hitting 60mph in 4.6 sec and the 1/4 in 13.2 @ 104.1mph. But here it is again just for you...

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....&page_number=3

Also, if you look in the rear of the Motor mag, where they keep their best times in every car Archived, you'll see the RS4 is recorded as doing 4.8 sec to 100km/h and 12.9 sec 1/4 mile.

And while the SRT-8 Cherokee may have 313kW and 569Nm, it also has a kerb weight of 4805lbs. That's 2184kg. The RS4 has 309kW and 430Nm at 1650kg. That's 187.27kW/tonne and 260.60Nm/tonne for the RS4 and 143.32kW/tonne and 260.53Nm/tonne for the SRT-8 Cherokee. And then you have to factor in aerodynamic drag, which is going to be far worse for the massive 4WD compared to the mid-size sedan.

The closest a Cherokee SRT-8 is getting to an RS4 is lining him up at the lights. After that, he'll be staring at his tail lights the entire time.

Yep, he'd be able to tell everyone how pretty the RS4 looks from behind, what an M3 looks like when its right next to him (they're dead even)... and well yeah, how embarassing it must have been for the FPV GT driver who was miles behind everyone else.

Having said that, it is rather impressive for nearly 2200kg of 4WD. In a drag race.

In MOTORS Performance Car of the Year last year (of which it won) the RS4 ran a 12.9 quarter....not really sure what M3's run. Impressive none the less from the Jeep.

Really only the GT's are behind in the FPV stakes, every Typhoon I have seen run has done better than 13.5, costs $20K less than a Jeep, uses less fuel, has a better transmission, corners and stops better, all whilst being arguably as practical.

Winning races in a Jeep is like winning arguments on the internet.

Who gives a #$%^ how quick this piece of junk jeep is.

How about those that are unhappy with their FPV's, trade them in on the Jeep then?? You'll all be able to run the qtr a couple of tenths quicker if you're lucky.

oh, most people in the sh^ts about this don't even own an FPV right???

lol, agree Jem. i'd never swap my F6 for that hideous box..

I bet it doesnt corner like an F6 :hihi:

People put too much emphasis on straight line. There is so much more to driving than that.

No?! That can't be, Motor wouldn't be FOS would they?

But they say that a Jeep will beat:
Audi RS4,
BMW M3,
BMW Z4,
FPV GT,
FPV GT-P
Ford XR6T,
FPV Tornado,
FPV Pursuit, SS,
HSV Maloo,
HSV Clubby,
WRX STi,
Jaguar XJR,
Maseratti Quattroporte GT,
Aston Martin V8 Vantage,
Porsche Cayman S,

I can't believe you would suggest their times aren't anything but spot on.

You left out the /end sarcasm :

I know I'd own everyone of those cars over this Jeep regardless of whether it was faster or not.

It's all well and good having a fast Jeep but that doesn't mean that it will sell.

Yeap the Jeep is a bit of a "cos we can" car.

One thing about Jeep, and Chrysler, is the absolute shocking interior plastic. I know we dont have the best either but I reakon it was on par with a XF!

Its like lego plastic...you flick it with your finger and hear a hollow noise, not good at all.

Many of you really do miss the point completely with this magazine test stuff.

1) Comparing to other countries etc. The conditions, actual models, fuel and testing methodology in other places has very little relavence to here. For example, MOTOR use an accellerometer (Vbox) and airport or circuit track rather than an actual drag strip. You cannot hedge (roll back to the start of the line so you are actually moving when the lights are crossed) with an accellerometer. Anyone who plays ETs knows this trick.
The surface on the straight of a circuit or an airstrip is not as grippy and does not have lots of rubber ingrained.

2) Air temps, pressures and humidity differ and this can and does make major differences.

3) Australian petrol is different to that of other countries.

Comparing times run in different countries is like comparing dyno readings, fairly inconclusive.
For that matter comparing MOTOR and WHEELS is also pointless as they use different criteria. WHEELS do their times 2 up as that is how most people drive.
The PCOTY test regiem has been designed to test a number of vehicles by a number of drivers to give an accurate avarage performance level.
The cost of spending time giving every driver hundreds of hours on type with every vehicle would bankrupt the publisher so they do the fair thing, they get reasionably good drivers to have a play and record the results.

My F6 goes heaps better when the weather is very cold. Does this mean if I loose a race I can blame the weather? It would be the same for both of us.
If I won would I state "Only because it was cold", I don't think so.....

Like in V8SC, he who crosses the line first, WINS, there is only room for a number not a story.......

Now in saying all this, FPV, HSV and the 300C SRT have not been tested yet, or at least the results not published.

Lets just see how it all goes....

Exactly, that car took a clean sweep of the "bad designs" list in that test. Its fast but has noting else (won't even make a good off-roader!).
