Default Where Would I Find Indepth Mechanical Knowlage?

Hey Guys,

I am becoming more and more interested in donig up cars, especialy E-series.
I know the basic concepts how cars work and main parts involved.I have learned heaps just from these forums alone. However, I am realy eager to learn more specific things about technical side. For example, I know the functions of a cam, what the pistons do and where the fuel/air mixture is injected, but I want more indepth information.

Can anyone recomend any sites or places I might go to better understand more intermediate/advanced mechanics?

Where have you all learned your knowlage? I am sure many of the ford forum members are mechanics.

I'd just like to say I realy appreciate these forums. I must have been on here at least 10 hours a week for the past six months.

Thanks guys.

Yeah I've seen the EA - EB - ED Repairs manual, I've just never had the $40 - $60 to buy it at the time. But I will. Is it worth it?

Agreed, gregoreys manual is the way to go, also, just attempt things your self. my car has never seen a mechanic, and never will, i'll do it myself, and if i need help, i'll use the gregoreys. Best way to learn, is pull it apart, and put it back together. no amount of pictures can help you understand better than seeing how it works itself.

www.howstuffworks.com gives descriptions on automotive systems. Not really mechanical look but gives a basic look and provides links to expand you knowledge at the end of each write up.

www.wikipedia.com can give a compresensive history lesson on a system/engine. And 99% of the time gives you further links, if you want to shift away slightly from the technical side of things.

I reckon the forums you are on now is pretty decent. Before I had my EA I wouldn't have known how to change an Air Filter. I have done engine swaps, manual conversions, diff swaps, etc etc and all from the knowledge and help of people on these forums. Just don't be afraid to ask questions.
