Default Guns / Rifle / License

I want to go to shooting ranges and that. Has anyone been through the process of getting a license and doing this kind of stuff? I just want to get a basic rifle, even a .22 or whatever, and go shooting targets or rabits on my mates farm.

Are you in Vic? I did it a few months ago. It would be different between states I guess.

Call the NSW Firearms Registry on 1300 362 562 (assuming you are in NSW)

getting a pistol licence is a bloody pain in the **** but you just want Rifle which is pretty easy.

if there are any local shooting ranges/clubs, find out, and give them a call. they will be able to point you in the right direction

I am little rusty as I got mine some time ago but this is the general gist of it

Remembering Every State is different, WA being the biggest PITA with it.

Have you had much to do with firearms in the past, as there are a few general safety questions on the forms that you need to know?

You have a farm to Shoot on so you are pretty much covered, You just need a letter from your mates Old man saying you have permission to shoot on his properties to control Vermin (Rabbit’s, fox’s, Goats, pig’s Ext)

You then need to decide what you want to purchase, The A class license covers .22,.22 magnum and Shot Gun’s.

You nee to organise the buy with the Gun shop then go to your local cop shop fill out like 15 pagers of paper work have the said weapon in for inspection and serial number checking wait a month go back and you will be issued a license if it has been approved, you can then go and collect your rifle.

For B class License (High powered rifles .22 hornet or bigger) you will need a decent sized property (How big is ya mates farm) or be a member of a Sporting-shooting club for centre fire rifles.

You will also need a gun safe around $300 and a carry bag for when in transit.

Cheers and be safe.

you need the a class (rimfire,etc) for a .22.
You have to do a course now the owner of the local firearms shop was telling me,not just the simple safety test anymore, but i havent confirmed this, best to call the registry.
