Just took my auii falcon in for a major service today and was told i needed new leads, only problem was they were gonna charge me $140 to do it! Drove down the road picked up a set of bosch leads for $65 only they don't fit!!! The boot is too small and doesn't seem to fit over or in the distributor terminals.
The leads are labelled as 'B6201i Falcon, fairmont, fairlane au, auii 4.0l 1998-2002' . The leads catalouge recommended B6228i but they don't seem to stock them at all! Anyone had this problem before and know how to get them on??? If not i'll return them tomorrow and get another set...any suggestions??? |

I had the same problem with my XA, the mechanic said it is a common problem. An easy fix that he recommended was to put them on and use a cable tie to secure them, after they heat up a bit the rubber has a bit of give and they should fit, then when you are happy with the fit, just cut the cable tie.
I'm surprised an "E" mutant did'nt reply earlier! |

well i've got bosch leads on mine, au1 mind you, but they went on no problems...the only thing i can think of is that au2's had different part numbers for xr6 etc i think, someone else may be able to shed more light tho...the only other thing it could be is that the box was labelled incorrectly, just out of interest are there definitely only 6 leads in the box?

had the exact same problem...the leads you need have to be ordered as the other set are only designed for AUI-early AUII i think.... Bosch have their dates wrong i thought i got them to fix that..B6228i are dated 2001?-2003 but i got mine free from bosch because it was their stuff up, they admitted fault and compensated me... now i use everything bosch as their service was top notch
B6228i fit anything AU2-AU3 inc XR and ute and LPG and this pack is the number leads 1-6 of different lengths....this costs around $120???

There is a difference between Series 1 & series 2/3 leads. Sounds like you have the series one set & the labelling is incorrect. I used to work in spares years ago & I remember back then the labelling & catalogues were not up to scratch, looks like they still haven't got their act together.
